1. London bombings
I guess some people approve that Bush's war in Iraq were a direct cause of the London bombings. After all... London is "over there"

2. It's a mistake to watch the polls daily or weekly.
Even the people from Gallup etc. will tell you that. Way too much depends on who happens to be polled in each one. It's much better to look at the trend over a month or two. It's clear that Shrubs poll numbers have been on a steady decline for months. Lets just watch them for the next few weeks and see. This small blip probably doesn't mean anything!

Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 11:32 AM by PurityOfEssence
The more he fucks up and the more things go into the international crapper, the more weak people rally around Mr. Steadfast.

The cowering fear of 9-11 should be shouted from the rooftops: first he was dumbstruck, then he flew to Louisiana, then he scampered off to Nebraska where he hid and quivered. His excuse for all this is that he wanted to go back to Washington immediately, but was overruled. This very claim shows that he's not the great god-king that he says he is; if he'd wanted to go back to Washington and wasn't just a figurehead, he'd have told these "advisers" to go to hell and he'd have done so. To me, this is the critical chink in his armor: his ONLY appeal is that he's decisive and forthright. The fact--as Alan Simpson confirms--that these guys do more polling than Clinton to see which way the wind blows completely undercuts the lie of his resilience. The cringing in the face of adversity is nothing short of laughable.

Weak people love a strong leader more than strong people do. His constituency is assholes and lily-livers.

He dropped in other questions:
5. All in all, do you think it was worth going to war in Iraq, or not?
Worth it Not worth it No opinion
Jul 7-10 44 53 3
Jun 29-30 46 52 2

I was also asked some questions about the economy but they're not reported on the USAToday site.

18. Something very significant in there

"Do you think the war in Iraq has made the US safer -- or less safe -- from terrorism?"

Safer 40%

Less safe 54%

For the first time a major US poll shows people willing to admit that Bush's actions have endangered the homeland.

21. Wow!
That's HUGE!

Can you imagine Clinton (and I'm not a big Clinton fan) getting away with doing Nation Building that adversely affected our safety???

The only real argument that the Bush regime has been able to stick to has been that they liberated Iraq from a dictator, but at the cost of almost 2,000 US lives, 100,000 Iraqis, our national security, three quarters of a trillion dollars, with absolutely NO (NONE) benefit to the United States or our allies?

And yet somehow the man got re-elected.

20. I don't even think it is the bombing--it is because he is on TV
a lot lately. When the sheeple see him they equate that to his actually getting off his ass and doing something. Of course he has to make a lot of public appearances since he will probably be taking his month-long vacation in a couple of weeks. So the non-bounce is simply his increased visibility in the past week. He ahs made a lot of appearances--FBI, G-8, etc.

Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 04:51 PM by unlawflcombatnt
I watch the polls myself. However, I never use the Gallop poll, because they are known for overrepresenting Republicans in their sample population.

Bush's approval may have risen slightly in the last week, but no other polls (except Fox News) puts him at 53%. Here are the latest polls I'm aware of on Bush's approval rating.

7/12/05 - - - - 51% Approve - - - - - - - 48% Disapprove
