3. To basically quote Noam Chomsky:
the media controls the government. They're not pleased with Bush's performance in the White House.

9. That's not quite Chomsky, IMO. But..
Chomsky does say that when there is disagreement within the ruling elites, then you will see it in the media.

That being said, it gives us all the more reason to be hopeful. Some powerful people must see a light at the end of this. At least a way to rein in the excesses.

14. Probably
And they can tell when the public isn't happy either. If the public isn't happy then they don't get raitings and they aren't getting raitings. So they have to turn things around. All about capitalisim.

and if they find a good juicy scandal that generates interest and ratings they really don't care whose 'ox they are goring'. Also they like to see the 'mighty' fall they're like sharks or jackals if they smell blood they will pile on to up to rip em apart.

21. cutting losses
The attack dog is being pulled back in to be beaten for its failure, most probably for the failure to make progress in Iraq and the exposure of Gladio.

No conspiracy required. The corporations etc. that would otherwise benefit are not doing so because Iraq was never decisively stabilized and he's even managed to allow the terrorist network used to manipulate public opinion to be exposed in all the bungling on his watch. They were willing to ignore numerous faults, cover up numerous scandals, etc. until almost 2 years out the occupation looked like it was going to get swarmed by hordes from all over the Middle East outright instead of the position actually solidifying, and the various commercial exploitation efforts (excepting defense) hemorrhaging dollars by the billion the whole time, they gave up. No oil, no presidency. Bye Bush.

It'd be nice if the people had a say in all this.

25. hard news peg
with the Cooper/Miller hearings. Those are still happening, so they get to report that stuff and then discuss it. And they are getting a lot of positive response on this story, followed by face time for lots of opinion leaders & pundits.

I don't think they will drop it after tomorrow's Cooper testimony, I think that will lead to a bit more interest. Then it can revive later when & if there are indictments or resignations. They love covering "established" stories, it's the gift that keeps on giving. That's why they are still in Aruba.

Seems they have stirred up a real hornet's nest this time!

8. another poster observed previously that --
-- since Rove, who was the "enforcer" with the corporate media, is now on the defensive, he can no longer intimidate them. This could free them up a little bit.

Hooray!

10. i gotta believe that whoever is pulling the strings behind the curtain
makes a lot of money off this country being the way it is. This administration threatens the country with demise and failure. THis person would gladly cut off this administration before it killed his(or her) cash cow.

You gotta protect your interests.

The question is, who stands to gain the most out of this country financially and any other way? And what power do they weild to be able to get it. Whoever it is is bigger than Dick Cheney or the Bush Crime Family. And they aren't going to let these litttle buggers fuck up their system...

15. Exactly!
That's why I think in the 2008 election they will be for the democratic canidate. If you haven't watch the documentary "Spin." You can see it here: http://mysite.verizon.net/res7dhyg/id3.html

It's very interesting. Also a lot of the media is involved in the Bilderberg group. So I wouldn't be surprised if someone there is telling them what to do. I used to think Bush and the neocons owned the media but now seeing what's going on it's clearly not the case. Cheney or someone else in Bush's ties would've kept the media going on with everything. So they're just following orders.... Local news stations I don't know about but definitley station's like Fox, CNN, ABC etc.

22. You guys are catching on.
There is multigenerational Old Money that runs the world. Call them the Illuminati. The Rothschilds, Rockefellers, a number of others. Politicians everywhere are just front men who serve at their pleasure. The next President will be a Democrat, but a DLC type; that is, a person given to superficially liberal rhetoric, but committed to deeply capitalist principles. JFK was one of those, controlled by Old Joe until Joe had his stroke. Then JFK got off the leash & had to be taken out. Carter was originally seen as a safe conservative southerner, a caretaker, but he got a little loose so they paralyzed him with skyrocketing oil prices, 20% inflation &, just to take no chances, the hostage crisis. Clinton was DLC. Think NAFTA, welfare reform & the sinking of our chances for universal health care.

I've been half-suspecting for some time that The Powers are gonna give us Hillary, but maybe it will be Biden. It will be an interesting show in any case. Remember that a Diebold machine can be set to vote for a Democrat as easily as for a Republican.

19. doubt secret trillionaires
Sure, there are some trillionaire corporations, but not people. If there were such people they would leave identifiable footprints, as such wealth is extremely difficult to conceal. If there are trillionaires, they would be monarchs whose wealth is defined in terms of mineral rights as opposed to conventionally, and they're no secret (House of Saud et al). Otherwise, the only trillionaires are juridical persons, not natural persons, and they're no secret either.

There's nothing quite so difficult to figure out going on.

12. They smell blood
this is the way the media generally works.
Maybe they are whores but there could also be a quite banal explanation of general inertia among any institution and the media is an institution.
But once they smell blood, members of the media wake up and go for the kill.
That's what I think is happening now.

13. A few things came together to have them grow spines...
1. Miller was jailed, while Novak raoms free.

2. They hate Rove, they needed a bone.

3. They are tired of the "liberal Media" junk.

4. They want answers as to why they were lied too,(caught red-handeed
no way the WH can get out of it).

5. They met together and made a conscious decision to run w/the story.

All ov these things came together to create the stom, and there is more to come. If bush, Rove or McClellan fart out of tune, they'll be called to answer...:)

Once the Press COrps gets going, it takes a lot to stop it. Witht he WH on the defensive, they are gonna get shaken, and hard...:D

A war based on a lie, nearly two thousand young soldiers dead, global warming threatening to destroy our planet, national debt off the charts, jobs down the tubes...and all while the media slept.
