Sen. James Imhofe, (R-Oklahoma), turning NO into Love Canal
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 08:38 AM by The Whiskey Priest
Bill Would Let E.P.A. Relax Rules for Cleanup

“The legislation, which drew immediate criticism from environmental groups, would create a 120-day period in which the agency's administrator, Stephen L. Johnson, could waive or modify laws if it became "necessary to respond in a timely and effective manner" to a situation created by the storm.
The proposal would allow changes in law at the discretion of the Bush administrator in consultation with the governor of "any affected state."
"This legislation is purely about providing E.P.A. the clarity and certainty it will need down the road to ensure a timely and effective response," said Bill Holbrook, a spokesman for the chairman, Senator James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma.”

Imhofe’s list of repeals also must include; Building Standards, Accounting and Auditing Standards, Ethic Standards, Competitive Bidding Practices. My Goodness! That old saw “it is an ill-wind that blows no one good fortune," is true.

1. They don't seem to realize that those rules are in place for a reason
(and no, that reason is not just to enrage Republicans). Trading the health and safety of thousands of people for the sake of expediency is a bad, bad idea. If we allow this now, where will it stop?

2. Inhofe is the Idiot Okie Repuke
that did not even fly over Tar Creek much less actually visit the site in person until after RFK Jr. visited as a plaintiffs attorney.

Tar Creek is a toxic area in NE Oklahoma that is contaminated by lead and other heavy metals. It has been there for generations.

This slimball used to be mayor of Tulsa.

3. Just image all the tourists that will ruch to NO to get a good dose of
toxic sludge. Yes, great idea. They can sell gas masks at the airport. Wading boots. Maybe even whole body coverings to protect the tourists.

4. The Republicans are taking advantage of this tragedy for
political gain in their right wing base. "Roll back the environmental regulations" is just what those Conservatives want to hear.
It also helps out big business by relieving them of the expense of meeting the regulations.
If they get away with a limited suspension of the regulations - stand by for repuke efforts to make the suspensions permanent!

6. I just hope they DON'T consult with Dutch experts on dikes
and levees, since their nation is mostly below sea level.

If they did that, they might appear to have some common sense and caring and competence.

What am I worried about? It'll never happen!
