"make no mistake about it, the Bush presidency is in trouble."- B.O'Reilly
Yes, that Bill O'Reilly! I found this in this week's edition of "The Sunday Paper." It's a new "Free Weekly" here in Atlanta. From the commentators and the amount of ads, I get the feeling that it is some sort of corporate media scam to put out a "free weekly" that looks like or competes with our hometown "Creative Loafing."

What amazes me is his calling * "Mr. Bush" or "president (uncapitalized) Bush." I still can never tell if, when someone refers to "President Bush," if they are talking about the "WW2 war hero" or "dim-son."

Oh, and who exactly is "...the elite media...?"

<http://atlanta.sundaypaper.com/LEFTRIGHT/BillOReilly/BillOReillyArchives/tabid/212/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/543/BenefitofthedoubtBillOReilly.aspx>

"...But make no mistake about it, the Bush presidency is in trouble. W needs to regain his leadership credibility, and he needs to show the nation his administration is in command, especially in Iraq, which the elite media will spin negatively all day long.

Finally, President Bush must directly engage the American oil companies and make sure working Americans are not brutalized by home heating costs this winter. If that situation is not brought under control soon, Mr. Bush will be doomed...."

4. He's figured out one thing
High energy prices will wake up the sheeple and will bring down the repukes. I don't see how they will be able to spin themselves out of it. Even those who hate gays and want the 10 Commandments on every courthouse lawn will forget that if they're freezing their tushes off this winter.

5. The Hartford Courant (R) also publishes 6 "News & Arts Weeklies"
The Courant is a Knight-Ridder Republican mouthpiece. Always loyal and faithful, always following the GOP marching orders. Yet, the also publish The Hartford Advocate, and five other regional editions stretching from the NY state line up into Vermont. The Advocate does hard-hitting investigative exposes on BushCo's crimes all the time. Yet, these amazing revelations about BushCo's crimes never seem to make it into the mainstream daily.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm.

10. the elite media *wink wink*
that is RNC code words for "liberal media" - basically the word elite implies that anyone who has an ounce of brains and dares to question King George is "elite".

11. I wish he'd spelled out just what he meant by "Mr. Bush will be doomed."
Surely he doesn't actually Believe anyone's going to impeach him?

He can't stand for re-election again, so that's not on the chopping block...

So what's doomed? His domestic agenda, his foreign policy, his coattails for the midterm elections? His (gag, choke, sputter) "legacy", what?!?!?! WHAT?

I hate when they serve the appetizer and never deliver the entree.

will care about them as he did in his response to the people of New Orleans. Today, it was reported that California's increase in heating fuel costs will rise 35%... !

21. I live in Woodstock, northwest of Atlanta.
And actually, my electric bills have not been too much higher than last summer. My average bill with the two a/c units running all day has been about $85. Last summer it was around $75.

25. Consider your self lucky, I live south of Marietta, and mine has...
...gone up. My CobbEMC bills for July and August were both over $150.00, up from about $100.00, with one air conditioner.

Some of the difference, I'm sure, is probably the fact that my Air-Conditioner is 15-25 years old (not sure).

I wonder if you folks up there are at a slightly higher elevation, being so close to the Mountains might help the area cool faster at night.

27. It can be bad for a lot of people in the
Northeast where heating oil is popular. We locked into a price and some oil companies have that option but a lot of people are not locked in so they will pay whatever the going rate is to fill their oil tanks and that can end up being a fortune if we have a very bad Winter. (not that * or any of the Republican really care that much about the Norhtheast).

THAT could be the motivation for his suddenly seeing (or at least) referring to 'the light.'

23. a side note on 'President Bush'
President is not a title for life, and after leaving office the proper title is the highest office held other than president. Clinton and Carter should be addressed as Governor, and HW as Ambassador, Ford as Congressman.

Rightwingers have a tendency to hold on to the president title for their own and use no title or just plain mister for Clinton and Carter.

Vice President, same rule.

26. Yes, unless my history teachers and etiquette guides are wrong.
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 12:00 PM by Gormy Cuss
It is appropriate to refer to HW as 'former president Bush' but not 'President Bush.'

I remember being told that this protocol was set early in our history by the earliest leaders as part of the effort to separate our government philosophy from the dreaded monarchy, but I don't know if that is based in fact or just a legend.

That you can't recall anyone following the rule is not surprising. There are too few people in the media or politics who observe this etiquette these days. If they did there would never be a question of which Bush was being referenced.
