Make no mistake, Bush is going to withdraw the troops.....
But he wants to call it a "victory". A victory is whatever they want to call it. In reality, it is a disaster by just about any definition. We have created new enemies for at least another generation and we have turned the world against us. But Bush wants to blame it on the Democrats. He will say that the Democrats wanted to retreat but that he stayed until Iraq had a chance to govern themselves. It doesn't matter if they actually are able to govern themselves. Bush is playing politics with this war and the Republicans will follow him to hell and back. Democrats will not follow him that far but, they will send their lawyers.

4. We will keep a presence but present it to the press as withdrawal.
But because we simply do not have the troops for another two years, at least half of them will be withdrawn. It doesn't matter if the situation has changed from today or not. They will say it has changed for the better and the press will report that they say it has changed for the better... Then it will be a PR battle with the Democrats saying things have not changed and the Repubs saying they have changed. Whoever has the best propagandists wins the "war".

2. Yes, he'll start to draw down troops ...
... before the 2006 mid-terms, because it's politically expedient to do so. Then we'll have three years of hearing about how Iraq would have been an OVERWHELMING SUCCESS, if only we'd 'stayed the course'.

But no spin in the world is going to change the facts, the number of casualties, or the number of Iraqi civilians killed.

Worst. President. Ever. Ain't nothin' going change THAT, either!

He gave them the opportunity. It's up to them whether they want to make democracy work or not. We did all we could do. That's the way it will be spun...

10. And in the end when it turns out to be a disaster,
they will try to blame it all on us because we criticized and pressured for the pullout. But we have two thins going for us now that we didn't have after Vietnam, the internet and liberal talk radio. I think this is going to make a big difference. As time goes on , I think talk radio is going to have a big impact on the political landscape in this country.
