Did Ted Stevens just retire?
Ted Stevens just said goodbye to the Senate.

"I say goodbye to the Senate tonight" was the quote after a bitterly angry speech on the ANWR vote.

1. Could we be that lucky?
Or was he just pitching a hissy fit for the cameras?

2. Wishful thinking
Probably just a reference to their going into recess for the holidays.

Now, * can appoint an unlimited number to toadies.

7. I think you are right
As he was rambling and ranting and complaining how he wasn't gettin' any respect from media & Senate, he seemed to say something about when he comes back after the recess (?) he would get back somehow at the situation. I just barely understood him but thought that he was making sure that he said something about sticking around.

3. didn't see it

but it strikes me as a distinct possibility. He threatened to quit when they asked him to give up the bridge to nowhere.

That would certainly be an interesting development, wouldn't it?

on edit: it's possible he said it in the sense that the Senate he has known is gone.

Didn't see it but I remember that threat. So who does he think he's threatening anyway?

18. Thank you, BillyBob...
Sadly, I doubt that Ted is coming home permanently any time soon. He's going to get ANWR drilling through somehow or die trying.

13. From today's Toronto Star:
Stevens, an often outrageous and cantankerous 82-year-old with 38 years in the Senate, rose yersterday to denounce those who have been calling him outrageous and cantankerous

19. Hey, I just wrote a letter to the......
Alaskan Convention and Visitors Bureau telling them I'm cancelling a company cruise to that state. After visiting several times, I will not visit there again until Senator Ted Stevens resigns, or is defeated by a democrat. This guy is a repiglican nutcase who should be put away permanantly.

24. No, he was making lots of threats on how anyone that voted against ANWR
would not get any thing through his committee and it is an important committee. I think that alone should be a cause to have him removed from his Chairmanships.....It is called intimidation and is very unethical...
