Obama letting Russert repeat talking points and not challenging
him on the old "Abramoff gave to both parties"lie. What is wrong with these democrats who let Russert and his ilk make them look foolish.

1. And I just *love* how Obama, a Dem
has to explain about lobbyists and how they work, etc. Have a freakin' Puke do so.

That segment was rather annoying, but what else is new?

3. Yes, and it's so easy to refute that the Dems got any money.
And the Dems keep talking about working with the repubs. Why can't they just attack and attack. Take a stand. my heavens. I wonder who the "ready bad presidents" he mention are.

5. I was extremely disappointed in Obama's appearance on MTP.
He did not defend the Dems well and seemed to be trying to play to the middle, ala Hillary.

Fuck that.

13. I heard that, too
When asked what is to be done about Bush's flaunting of the law and constitution, he failed to acknowledge the congressional responsibility to impeach and then went on to claim that public opinion would reign Bush in. :eyes:

15. YES! that was the part that got me
We elected these people to represent us, acting via the rule of law, and then they tell us to do it ourselves!

And for some reason, I really feel duped by Obama. I don't know why, but I had higher hopes that he would be a truth teller.

But we should know by now, that truth tellers, like Kucinich and Dean, are always going to be marginalized, not only by the media, but by the so-called "leaders" of our party.

8. What did you expect, an opposition party?
There hasn't been an opposition party in this country since at least 9-11.

Obama is DLC.

10. I thought he did a very good job.
He got the point accross without sounding hysterical he took every jab russert threw and tossed it back with ease.I didn't like the fact that Russert asked him about Belefonte like "you're black can't you control your people".That was very racist approach.I bet he doesn't ask him about Belefonte if he had Kerry on.Fire and brimstone won't win every fight, the right answers will.

12. you just said exactly what I thought while watching it.
I also wondered why Russert found it necessary to ask Obama about Belafonte - same take on it as you. I thought Obama did very well and seemed very comfortable. He did particularly well when Russert pulled his patented "Aha! But in 1999 you said this!" ploy. He was correct in saying that campaign fundraising is an across the board problem. Just because he didn't jump up and shout "J'accuse!" doesn't mean he wasn't a great representative for us.

14. Obama was thoughtful and rational
Unfortunately, many people criticizing him didn't even watch the show. This goes for Begala and Carville.

22. I think some of you are being a teensy bit extreme.

Ever heard of the phrase you catch more bees with honey? Being radically hysterical doesn't serve anyone's interests except to give ammunition to the wingnuts.

Obama was eloquent and calm and DID correct Russert. Maybe you didn't notice because he didn't have flames coming out of his mouth and eyes. He didn't back down but he tried to temper his stance with reason and facts.

And I'm surprise some of you don't know this but Obama insisted on the DLC removing his name from their membership list. That's old news. http://www.blackcommentator.com/48/48_cover.html

And BTW, you are looking at a future president.

18. Obama skillfully sidesteped the numerous trapsTim tried
lay for him. Tim's questions were designed to get quips and sound bites from Obama that the RNC could use on him at a later date. Notice when Tim posted the remarks by Obama about it being politically rational to advocate pulling out of Iraq, Obama had to remind him about the context from which it was taken. Then Tim continued to try to catch him up after that. What about what Hillary said? What about what Belafonte said? Is bush the worst president ever? Obamally skillfully sidestepped those silly and arbitrary questions that have nothing to do with the important issues facing America.

24. What else is new
Almost everyone in the party aside from Dean, Conyers and a few others act like battered women when the press and the far right abuses them. Learned helplesness, plain & simple.

The first few who actually start to stand up and be assertive and - YES - even insult their abusers, will be considered public heros.

The Dems ought to clue in to the fact that the vast majority of people love to see someone put these arrogant "talking heads" in their place.

25. As the second most junior Senator in the Senate, I'd say give him
some time.

I still have high hopes for his future with the Dems, but he is still "wet behind the ears," wrt politics.

Did you see Reid introduce him at a Democratic press conference. He said that until a few minutes ago Obama was the most junior member of the Senate.

There was a funny moment, to me anyhow, when Reid looked at Barack. Barack gestured an open palm to him as if to say thanks so much or something.

Yawn.

Soooooooo underwhelming.

But at least it supports my previous views of him - all hype, no substance, very disappointing.
