--talkin' about this site or internet in general. What could be possible OTHER/ADDITIONAL sources of connection/communication? To combat that paralyzing fear that comes from isolation.
(There was a thread about what would folks do in case of a nuclear holocaust....I figured the scenario described above might happen before)

1. Good question.
Anything you do to serve as a way for mutual support could also serve to endanger those you wish to protect.

2. I know I have transformed a lot of formerly In Vivo activity to
computer/telephone activity. And I KNOW that there is a vital element that is missing. I am lecturing myself here to find some political group that meets In Person -- that I can have some passion about and contribute my skills to -- it's so easy not to have the time for that....but I think it is so important to maintain face to face political activities as well in ones life.

4. How did people connect...
... before the internet?

That's the answer to your question. People did connect, face-to-face, flyer to telephone pole, etc. The anti-war movement of the Vietnam era got many more people out into the streets without the internet than the same did in 2002-2003.

Simple dependency on the technology has inclined us to believe there's no other way to communicate now, and that's not true. More difficult to communicate without the internet? Yes. Impossible to communicate without it? No.

Cheers.
