I was listening to "liberal" radio today and they were saying that after the SCOTUS reverses Roe and other passed decisions, people will find ways to disobey the laws like they did in the past.
The thought that occurs to me is that people born after the 70's don't know what it was like before those decisions were handed down but soon they will see for themselves what life was like for women and minorities and average workers in the 50's.
The problem today is that jobs are not as plentiful as they were in the 50's when there were lots of unskilled jobs to be had that paid more that they do today relatively speaking.
So young people of today have a harder struggle than we did in the 60's ( I'll be 60 in a couple of months). I hope they get out there in the streets and make some noise when the feces hit the cooling system.
...especially about the jobs part. Remember when a boy just out of high school could get a job pumping gas? "Can I check your oil, ma'am?" Those were the days......
5. What was so bad about the fifties? There were plenty of jobs and
jobs with good benefits and the promise of a good pension. The unions were strong. What on earth are you referring to in the end of your second paragraph about "average workers"?.
I was a young woman in the fifties and was treated quite well.Life for women wasn't THAT bad in the fifties.
10. Not everyone had the same experiences. The woman's movement
was begun to make conditions better for women who did not experience life as you did. Many workers were injured and died on the job before OSHA and better working conditions became the norm.
I could go on if I took the time to think about it but just look as the Supreme Court decisions since the 50's that made life better for us and then think about what it was like before those decisions and you will get what I mean.
7. I'm afraid it will take something really drastic to get youth involved
in politics. Like a draft. So very few see or feel the direct affect that government has on them. It's the old story of the frog in boiling water--raise the temp slowly enough and he'll not notice.
Having the government drag you out of school, make you wear ugly clothes and being shot at gets your attention.
