I'm scared....
I'm 18 right now, and I'm scared shitless on where this country is going.

Right now, I'm actually thankful for my diabetes; what else can I fall back on when (when, not if) bushco. institutes a draft?

Right now, I'm in college. I'm looking for a job; what does it say when even the only custodial jobs (paying less than 5 digits a year after taxes) that are open are from 3:30-11:45 pm and 8:00 pm-7:00 AM?

I'm male, which is lucky for me because bushco./alito is DETERMINED to end legal abortions, which means that if you're female and get pregnant and you're not rich, you'll have to carry it full term. Not like the government plans to help you out or anything, of course.

Now, I've just been going on about me; if the bushcabal gets its way, we'll be at war with Iran, which, from what I can tell, will be an exponentially more difficult war to fight compared to Iraq.

Even though bushco's approval rating is in the 30s and has been for a while, the repubs won't ever get booted out of office; they count the vote!

Would someone please find something positive to look forward to?

4. You Sound Wise For Your Age....
A lot wiser than some people twice your age, that's for certain. No, I can't give you anything to look forward to unfortunately. I turn 40 this year, and as I told my friend recently, I don't think we make it through the next 3 years(how long King Shrub is in power). He asked me why, and I said...I don't know, but I just have a feeling the next 3 years will be the worst this country and possibly world has ever seen, but primarily I think it looks worst for Amerika.

for just one month and then repeat "primarily I think it looks worst for America".

We live in interesting times, and we're approaching a fork in the road which way we go will determine our future, hopefully, we'll prevail and you and other young men won't have to worry about war or jobs.

I have 3 kids your age. Yes, things suck right now, but have faith. Their are many people who are as unhappy as we are and we are all fighting. You are not alone and there is work to do. Just keep doing what you are doing and don't be afraid!

Looks to me like some kind of aggression
against Iran is almost guaranteed.

15. That you still have a voice to be vocal with
if they really get their way, you and I will be in a FEMA camp as dissidents. Best to speak up now while we still can. Explain it to your friends too, we need more than your help, we need their help too. In the end we are fighting global corperate domination, where nobody has rights, or a living worth speaking of and there will be no other country to run to because they will all be controlled by Exxon/Mobil, GE, Walmart etc.

So the positave is that we can still fight in a loud way and people are still listening. When this ceases to exist, call it a civil war or another revolution, you just better be good with a gun.

Have faith, we're fighting for you and my grandchildern....As a Vet , may I tell you not to fight in a war your not willing to die for. Best of luck!:toast:

18. The repugs are done. As it is written, let it be so.... and then there's
"Make it so number one"..... then there's the part where Picard finally has had enough of his right hand man's crap and says.... "Number one, go take a number two". As far as a war with Iran goes... they'll be in their last throes in a matter of weeks, ask the Dick Cheney. :)

20. I am 20, I feel your fear
I was convinced of a draft for a while, I was sure it would happen by winter 05'. Somehow that was avoided, and I really think bush will just keep up the economic draft, the real thing would probably stir up the people too much for the bushivek's taste. I keep going back and forth on the war with Iran, something tells me we aren't seeing the whole pic, I don't think we will full on invade or use major nuclear arms. The economy is fucked, I have accepted that (nothing much else to dO). Elections are rigged, all we can do is fight grassroots style to get people to fully understand that, and change it. Alito's confirmation scares me, rubberstamp on unitary exec. In anycase we are in for interesting times. I only hope our generation will snap out of it and get in gear on a major scale, so spread the word with me man. Peace.

22. Sounds Trivial but Get a Hobby or 2
They really help relieve the permanent tension the fascists in power have created. The simple distraction of thought for a few hours at a time keeps the mind healthy.

And, you have got a really healthy and aware mind, you're right about everything you said. Maybe you could hook up with some of these people in person, they might give you some ideas:

26. When I was 18, I was scared too.
It was 1963, Viet Nam, The assassination of Kennedy, both Kennedys, as a matter of fact. There was talk of LBJ hiring the hit on JFK so he could grab the power. Ther was the Cuban missle crisis, and the the threat of nuclear war hanging over our heads constantly. Then came Nixon and Watergate, etc, etc., etc.

If I had been around in the 20s and 30s I'm sure there would have been another shocking scnadal in Washington to be scared about, not to mention the horrirfic civil war period, and the American Revolution itself. Then there were the Romans trying to hold back the barabarian hoard. Like Winston Churchill said, History is just one damn thing after another.

Fact is, there's always good reason to be frightened. Don't let it get to you. In the final analysis becoming a hermit would probably have been my best course of action. I didn't have the courage to do it, though. But in my next life I WILL be a hermit, you can bet on that.

27. We're all scared. That is if we bother to pay attention to even
10% of what is going on around us. I'm 65, and I'm scared shitless. I wish I had an answer for you ... we all just have to work for and believe in changes to make the world better. Our parents and grandparents did that.

29. Be patient
Times will change. In life there are struggles. Life isn't worth living or at least you won't understand why life is worth living if it weren't for good times and bad. These fools will be kicked out of office soon enough. Try to be patient. The American SPirit is strong despite what others say. We WILL prevail from this madness.

30. Relaaaaaax, dude
Even if you didn't have diabetes, you could just put on a layered polo ensemble and tell the puke recruiters that you have to "win the war of ideas," at home, with the Young Republicans. Now what red-blooded American can argue that kicking girls to the ground, attending frat parties, stealing money from seniors, sodomizing children with broomstick handles and mis-quoting Dean Martin at the hotel bar isn't good patriotic work? I dare one commie pinko to come forth and denounce this noble endeavor!
