They needed to hold Alito hostage to this issue--but they didn't--and now Bush thinks he can do anything he wants. The GOP could help, but you sure can't count on it.

1. Of course they will
Why would you think the Dems would stand up to any threat Bush makes when they wouldn't stand up on Alito- a decision that they knew they would regret for a generation, but they did it anyway.

If the ones who voted against Alito had voted against cloture (and for the filibuster) Alito would not be on the Supreme Court.

at Smirk photo-ops, anyone will speak up.

6. When the Senate hearings start, will the Dems be forceful....
and stick together and try to recruit some like minded repukes for a blood bath. Or will they stick their fingers in the wind and decide it's not worth the trouble to make Chimpy follow the law.

7. Even worse I think would be that they talk with a poor framing.
If the competing arguments are "they dont respect the constitution" against "the terrorists will kill you", the second one will win.

Tell people why the program is harmful for THEM and do not protect them more.

8. Oh, yeah
There's really nothing they can do on that or any other issue. The only club they have in the bag is the filibuster, and they've shown that they won't use that, so * is unstoppable. Sadly, the 4th Reich will meet its end much like the 3rd Reich met its.

10. Call me naieve but I'm hoping that the domestic spying becomes a
bipartisan issue. I can't believe that there aren't any Republicans who won't want the spying to stop.

I won't be surprised if the whole thing gets swept under the rug, when it comes to consequences though.

12. What is most important is for Congress to demand Bush obey the law...
or face impeachment--even though I'm hoping he gets impeached for what he has already done.

14. This is a cabal - with the Congress, courts, and media all hand-picked
by Rove, there is no way * will face any consequences. In fact, he will get MORE aggressive with his un-American activites, hate radio and cable "news" will sell it to the ignorami in middle-America, and pretty soon you'll think it's always been done that way.

15. Can't believe the Repubs don't want to stop the spying?
Why? They have know since they started campaigning for Dufus back in 2000 that his goal was a dictatorship. They would have spoken up long ago if they had any problems with it.
