I was just amazed at this, that Mehlman had the nerve to do this. He was in NC, and Dean was there in Durham for a couple of rallies.
"Gov. Mike Easley is shifting blame for a recent state gasoline tax increase to Washington, but he and other North Carolina Democrats are the ones responsible, Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman said Wednesday.
"What you're seeing here is a governor who has been unwilling to take on this issue of high gas prices," Mehlman said in a news conference at the Legislative Building. "We know that the governor, we know that the leadership in the state legislature can take concrete steps to reduce that right now."
"Easley wrote a letter to President George W. Bush on Tuesday urging his administration to investigate oil company profits last year, including record earnings of $36 billion for Exxon Mobil announced this week."
Long story short, Mehlman said there were already enough laws on the books if oil companies were out of line, and Bush defended Exxon Mobil's profits, saying they were the result of the marketplace and that consumers should not expect price breaks. (Arrogant SOB)
It further points out that the governor has set aside 14 million to help low income with heating bills.
Dean was also in NC and he issued this statement...he is right.
"In a prepared statement, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean praised Easley for the Bush letter and said Mehlman "has a lot of nerve coming here and blaming North Carolina for high gas prices."
Dean visited Durham on Tuesday night during the State of the Union address."
