Budget Cuts approved - All Dems vote against it. Don't forget it.
Congress sends budget to Bush slashing social spending Thu Feb 2, 3:02 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) -
"The House of Representatives has narrowly approved a budget bill slashing some 39 billion dollars over five years from federal pay-outs to the elderly, indigent and students.

The bill, approved on Wednesday by a vote of 216 to 214, already was passed in the US Senate in December, and now goes to President George W. Bush's desk for signing.

....SKIP

"This isn't about small government," Pelosi said. "This is about small-minded, petty government that does not meet the needs of the American people," said Pelosi

The bill passed without a single Democratic vote, but Republicans, who outnumber Democrats in Congress, were able to avoid more than a handful of defections in passing the bill.

END"

5. I would have been greatly surprised if it had.
I've spent the last couple of decades watching people become less compassionate and more virulent. Most of that time, I held out hope that someone would say 'Hey, wait a minute. What the hell are we doing?' and everything would gradually return to 'normal.' Needless to say, I gave up hope quite some time ago.

4. This is why we need to work towards getting our majorities back
and work less on "purging" dems that we disagree with on a few issues. I am all for supporting my favorite candidates in the primaries, but I will always vote for the any dem over a republican.

6. That shows real leadership by Pelosi --
Some of the democrats are DINOs and yet she managed to hold the vote together. Good for her.

7. I don't think people like Lieberman have ever voted for draconian cuts
to help for those in need. He is just for an aggressive stance re: Israel. I think his record shows that. Were there others Dinos you were talking about?

8. Lieberman is a Senator -- so my remark didn't apply to Senate leadership

and we've seen that Reid isn't much of a leader -- and his voting record isn't that great.

9. I was pleasantly surprised to read that in the WaPo at lunchtime.
Although that was outweighed by the anger at the GOPers who let this piece of shit legislation pass.

But roll call votes aren't enough. Democrats need to beat GOPers over the head with this: e.g. "The Republicans think tax cuts for their rich cronies are more important than help for your elderly grandmother."

When the Sunday morning pundit-o-rama is on TV, we don't need some Biden offering a "nuanced" view of our Middle East policy. We need somebody to go on the offensive with regards to the GOP's sociopathic fiscal agenda.
