Tom DeLay Broke?

:nopity:

Looks like the money river is drying up for Tom DeLay. What a shame.

WASHINGTON - Embattled U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay raised more money for his legal defense in 2005 than ever before but still owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to lawyers, according to documents released Tuesday.

snip

But during 2005, DeLay's legal expenses topped $1 million, said Brent Perry, a Houston attorney who administers the fund.

"We paid out well over $500,000 in legal fees (in 2005)," he said. The payments would leave DeLay owing lawyers at least $500,000, a figure Perry said was probably low.

DeLay, of Sugar Land, raised $318,000 in the third quarter of 2005, during which he was indicted in Travis County. Perry said the falloff in the final three months should not be interpreted as a lack of enthusiasm among donors.

God Bless those internets.

Maybe a DU fundraiser? Anybody got change for a penny?

9. Let's see...
you're going to jail, broke, ugly, lost your job as house majority leader, and the only person that will touch your 'happy place' is Tweety Matthews. I'd say the falloff in the final three months should be interpreted as a rather enthusiastic vote of no confidence.

11. Richard III: "My kindom, my kingdom for some cash!"
I'm soooo surprised. He's out of power and that means out of money. Maybe he can get one of those Texas public defenders who sleep through murder trials. Serves him right. When you knock the crap out of people, year in and year out, when you strong arm money from anyone with enough to give year in and year out, you'r enot going to get much sympathy and certainly no cash when you really need it.

22. Isn't part of the Republican mantra that attorneys are all so
greedy, grasping and what is wrong with America? And that the working man should have limited access to an attorney?

15. He lives a "modest life" doncha know
That's what Tweety said when during Delay's interview. Walking down a row of very nice homes. The arrogance of these people is just getting to be beyond the pale. The wealthiest in the country are now considered living "modest lives" if they don't have 5 multi-million dollar homes. I love how they raise more money for their defense funds than most of us could raise if we needed a life saving surgery.

17. Poor Tom....
Have they checked his off-shore accounts for funds? Probably being held in the same bank as
Abramoff's, Rove's, Cheney's, Rumsfeld's, Libby's, Scanlon's, etc, etc, etc...

Look at all his resources, sources of funds.

What gets me when they claim they've provided protection by allowing citizens to sue or take a case to court. You know most non rich * supporters can not afford the legal costs.
