Why is IRV good for Republicans, but not good for Americans?
So Boehner was elected majority leader with a kind of IRV balloting system. My question is, why do Republicans think it's good for electing *their* leaders but not for Americans to elect our Senators, Congressman, and President?

These people are so self obsessed with themselves and holding on to power, that the sheer thought of another party (third party, etc) being elected, they can't even fathom the thought of giving us more choice.

It just makes me so mad how far behind the supposed "leader of the free world" is in regards to free and fair elections!

6. Everyone votes for their candidate and if no candidate
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 08:55 AM by HopeLives
gets the majority (not plurality) a second vote is taken between the top 2 vote-getters. This works when the race is 3+ candidates.

There are a lot of interesting ways to vote that I think would be more representative of the will of the people. I'd like to see electors (in Pres elections) assigned proportionately rather than winner-takes-all.

So a state with say 8 electoral votes and a voting split of 60/40 gives 60% of electors to one candidate 40% to the other.

Ain't gonna happen.

If anyone is interested in the different voting systems and where they are working, here's a great website.
