If you caught Pat Buchanan on Countdown, you'll know that because the Dems
gave Bush "absolute power" to go to war, it's all the Democrats fault that we are in Iraq.

3. Barbara Lee was the only one to speak for me.
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 08:46 PM by Tom Joad
Not at all discounting Bush and the repubs responsibility for this nightmare. Just giving Lee a shout out for her courage to vote against the resolution that authorized so much power to someone so ... crazy. Besides, even if someone wonderful were in office, no one should not have been granted so much power...

"On September 15, the US Congress approved a resolution authorizing President Bush to use "all necessary and appropriate force" against anyone associated with the terrorist attacks of September 11. The measure passed 98-0 in the Senate and 420-1 in the House. The lone dissenting vote was a colonel's daughter and longtime maverick from California -- Democrat Barbara Lee."

4. That was so bogus! He lied. Out right.
The Dems had better slam that right back across the net directly at his crummy feet. There was no honor in that. He should be ashamed. If you lie ,you cheat, and if you cheat, you steal. My children's grandfather said that, quite long ago. I think Pat Buchanan and the GOP do that, so sadly, quite well. Lie, cheat, and steal. They think winning is the only thing.

5. The Dems gave Bush the power but he lied to them. Period!!
The latest revelations prove that. It seems to be lost on all the media and most of the American people that Bush said to Blair then and to the nation that it didn't matter if Saddam had WMDs or not. He told Blair then (2003) that the US was going to invade and take Saddam out AND he told the American public that even knowing what he knows now about the WMDs he would still have invaded Iraq.
How much more plain can it be? We are being ruled by the most evil of elitest who are rolling over misinformed and brainwashed Christians and poor stupid working and underclass people who are blinded by their own racism, hate and fear and beating down a supposed opposition party that itself is funded by and wedded to the neocon/PNAC movement in key Congressional and business positions. Our country is "our country" no longer.

6. Y'know I got pissed when I heard that too, but
we all knew the fucker was lying, why didn't they? They aren't responsible, but they are guilty of extreme gullibility or cowardice for not calling bullshit on bush.

7. you are taking his remarks out of context . . .
he was responding to keith's question about why the dems weren't screaming about the dsm. pb said that some of them voted for the war and they are now having a hard time admitting their mistake. he didn't say it was all their fault.

8. If the Majority of the Dems Stood Together AGAINST the War
it would have made a HUGE difference - Dems are in the minority that's true, but they are not completely voiceless, they are not completely without power.

And I will always always always always know, they could have made a difference - i especially know it now, watching the Alito Confirmation process. that process alone revealed so much of what we need to understand about who these people are & how they operate.

And it told me we had enough power to have made a significant difference, and even possibly have prevented the Iraq invasion/occupation altogether had they at least tried.

9. I wish KO had come back with 2 points:
But, Pat...

1) It's not true that * was given carte blanche--as Kerry's numerous statements have reminded us, there were many conditions attached to the authorization, conditions that were NOT MET by *

2) * lied and/or misled the members of Congress and the American people about the WMD and other key facts. Their decision might have been completely different had they been told the truth.

I don't think the Dems are boxed in at all on this.
