Why should I vote in the Democratic Primary?
I'm putting together a flier for my precinct (I'm the chair) and I want it to be some inspiring reasons why they should get out and vote in the democratic primary. We don't have a lot of contested races on the Dem side (we're lucky enough just to FIND Dems to run here in Texas). But, I do know that .....

~ The turnout in the primaries determines how many voting locations we'll have in the future.
~In Texas, anyway, it is the only way to identify yourself as a Democrat.
~It is newsworthy (last year, we made even FOX NEWS for the amount of Dem turnout).

Any other points that I could bring up to my precinct voters (identified democrats)? I'd like to get a few bullet points to put on the flier.

Your help is greatly appreciated! We have 73% voter turnout here in my precinct and I want to be SURE that my dems are getting out to vote!

2. The State convention is in Fort Worth this year.
Voting, and participating in the precinct convention is their chance to have a say in the direction of the party.

Oh, and :hi: It's good to see you!

You going to the convention? I've been thinking about it....

You'll be happy to know I'm alive and kicking. I graduated from my program and internship and now I'm back into politics. Watch out, Texas! :) My organizing skills are lethal. LOL

But then, maybe not. I'll have to see. I'd like to make the trip.

I'm glad you're back into politics!

5. Americans' civil liberties are safer under a Democratic presidency
than under a Nixon, a Reagan, or anyone named Bush.

Democratic presidential candidates speak in public to a diverse demographic, while Bush hand-picks his questioners and entire audiences, always "safe" and dutiful supplicants.

Because our line-up is freakin' awesome, from past stars like FDR, JFK, RFK, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug, and many more, all the way to present champions like Ted Kennedy (that Alito speech was unbelievably inspiring!), Kerry, John Edwards, Elizabeth Edwards, Clark, Al Gore, Barbara Boxer, Feingold, Mario Cuomo -- and on and on and on.

We got the team, baby.

Got to get rid of the Cuellar Dems , from what I have been reading
GOP cannot be trusted near money, we need to ask people to choose their Dems wisely. After all , "if you want to live like a republican, you have to vote like a Democrat" HST I'm getting a good feeling from TX , good luck.

17. Dems aren't the only ones who watch Democratic primary turnout numbers.
A good turnout is a message to all that those same voters - regardless of their primary choice - are likely to vote in the general election. And will vote Democratic.

There was a local take a friend to the poll movement in my area one primary. A "safe" introduction to people who don't vote/haven't voted recently/get confused with long ballots is an uncontested primary.

And, even an uncontested primary is a good way to prime the pump for the general election. (I'm all for establishing a voting "habit" in the electorate. Kudos to your district for such a great turnout percentage.)

22. Okay, here's my list:
Reasons to vote in the Democratic Primary:

~It’s your civic duty.

~It is newsworthy. Our democratic turnout in xxxxxxxxx County made even FOX News in 2004. Let’s keep it up!

~With two weeks of early voting and polls open from 7-7 on election day, what is your excuse for not voting?

~Showing up in large numbers to the polls ensures us ample voting locations provided to us in the next election.

~If you vote in the primary, you are more likely to vote in the general election in November (it’s a good habit to get into).

~Voting, and participating in the precinct convention is your chance to have a say in the direction of the party.

~In Texas, since we don’t declare parties, it’s the only way to show you are a reliable, voting Dem.

~The number one reason? To let “them” know we're paying attention, to keep them from taking ordinary people for granted.

I took word for word what some of you said. I hope that's okay? I think it turned out good! I hope it's inspiring enough..... Maybe some of you will use it in your *own* precincts!
