to the right a person is, i.e., the more Conservative in their views, the more paranoid they seem to be? The more the likelihood of a boogie man lurking in their shadows? I have several friends like this.
That contrast readily with my liberal friends.
Other difference are the way their names are generally listed in the phone book. D. Smith.......555-5555 vs Deloris J. Smith... 123 side St...555-5554. Afraid of open lit parking lots after dark vs not afraid of walking to their car in the parking ramp anytime.
Yet, both groups seem to be just as safe. Nothing really serous happens to any of them because of the way they live their lives. Any bad news from the conservative friends that they use to rationalize their paranoid like actions always seems to be 2 and 3 hand. "My friend's cousin's mother once had that happen to her..." Very seldom first hand.
Now take this same paranoia to the national level where a off hand comment is meant to be acted on. Where with the people running things an analog colors world view is a unheard of concept. Where all thinking is done in stark black and white. Here you have bu$h and his handlers.
The world really is composed of analog colors, shades of grey from deep black to blinding white. The world is full of Rainbows, glorious sun rises & sunsets, vivid colorful flowers. Bright colors both natural and man made.
I once knew a woman, very pretty, smart - Masters Degree. But a evangelical fundy mind set. She had never noticed the beauty of a sunset. We used to go for walks in the evenings. One evening I pointed out a most colorful sunset. She wasn't very impressed. It was like "God's work, He can do anything. Ho-hum." The same with a weed growing out of a pile of rocks at a construction site. I had trouble wrapping my head around the way she saw things. To much just accepting, not questioning, not enough curiosity about things. Not enough Oh, Wow! in her life.
