The Neil Lisst Cartoon Weekend Review - all 5 cartoons here
The Terror Sandwich

An article in Newsweek broke the story of 10 protesters who handed out peanut butter sandwiches to Halliburton employees at their facility in Houston in 2003. Recall that Halliburton had been caught overcharging by $60 million for troop meals in Iraq. So what does the super-dooper, secret, get-them-terrorists in America branch of the Wolfy pentagon do? They tag our rag tag band of protesters as threats to America and spend tons of government money tracking them, spying on them, and monitoring them. They may have gotten "onto" this peanut butter sandwich attack by reading the DU boards.

The story is here

Just a lark, something to clear the palate after that sandwich seriousness.

10. Yeah, Bush sends them to their deaths, and he's supporting the troops!
But mentioning the number of war dead, that's NOT supporting the troops.

Welcome to Upside Down Land!!

3. Bwahahahaha, the groundhog!
Love that Aunt Mabel one. The depiction of a typical patriotic American home is spot on.

And the SOTU is another classic. I should print that out and see how long it lasts on our post office community bulletin board. :)

12. We have to energize the Aunt Mabel's of the party in 06 and 08!
I think sometimes we forget that part of Bill Clinton's success was his looks and charm. It's a good formula.

It's sad, but a significant percentile of the electorate buys the face that makes them feel happier.

15. You nailed it, Neil. It's all about style, nothing about substance.
That's why the media tried so hard to tear down Gore, who is actually quite handsome, by mocking his clothing choices.

OTOH, it makes Hillary a shoo-in if McCain is the Repub candidate. The problem is, neither of them have any "charm," or maybe it's just me.

I just want Brian Schweitzer, Dem. governor of Montana to run. He has style and substance. A genuine old-fashioned cowboy family-man kind of guy. A real straight-shooter. ;)

4. "Right Arm!" Who knew pbj was a terrorist plot; hell, I misread the psy-
op memo--should have used porkchops, BLT's, maybe?

You know what is really severely retarded? Men--beards, or no, running on estrogen overload! Shouting, pointing, trigger-pulling PM maniacs; there's more to fomenting than I thought. Hell, I thought those head wraps were symbolic of something, not merely keeping up wet hair. And our homegrown variety estrogen spiked televangelics whipping up the skirts with visions of snakes in their bloomers being freed. Lawddy, lawddy. I knew our waterways were becoming soups of birth control and prozac, but ESTROGEN TERRORISM? Goddamn them all; nobody understands me anymore........

Great toons.

But I think we're going to have to sign with a syndicate to get into the larger papers. That's how they're set up.

25. Coleman was an unfortunate fluke.
Wellstone died two weeks before the election which he was sure to win.

Then the Republicans trumped up charges of Dem politicking at the public memorial. Actually, there was a lot of raw pain, the Republicans took what a dear friend of Paul's said and twisted it to their advantage, and the media readily played along. And now we are stuck with Coleman till 2008! He is the worst politician we've ever had - bar none. But we hope we can get a fighting Dem to replace the retiring Dayton in November.

29. oooooo, that is good! similar look, too!
The NSA is definitely reading this site.

While 55 Iraq vets run as Dems for Congress, we're spied on at DU by NSA guys who never even served in the military. It reminds me of the line by George C. Scott as Patton.

You won't have to tell your kids you spent the war spying on Democrats and shoveling shit at Ft. Meade, Maryland.

33. It just shows how much they're tracking people at DU.
I'm sure they are following other links to other sites people here have.

It's not just them. SAC headquarters did the same. So did IRS headquarters in DC. It shows a widespread misuse of the government under Bush to track Democrats under the guise of National Security.

The Bush administration is using American government employees as official brownshirts. We have Nazis in training now in the bowels of government, people who neither respect nor understand the civil liberties that Americans have.

30. I most wanted to link the story that ran in Newsweek.
My partner who draws these in Canada wanted to do the sandwich, so we did it. We started to not run a cartoon that day, just the Newsweek lead-in and the link, but decided to go with the sandwich cartoon as the lead-in.

Plus, since we know NSA is reading our cartoon, we wanted to say SHAME ON YOU! I know from my own honorable service that I took pride in doing my job, but I would have been ashamed if I had ever been asked to spy on or monitor Americans. I believe there are many in the FBI and NSA who must be asking themselves "is this what I signed up to do?!"

Oh the irony. I held a top secret clearance and corresponded with the NSA almost daily while in the military. Now someone who wasn't even born then is monitoring MY cartoon for its anti-bush content. They get them young and fill their heads full of shit. The smart ones eventually learn what America and its great history really means.
