OH Repug regrets changing donation rules now that Dems ahead
Guess they didn't anticipate all the state's Repug crooks getting indicted.

Lawmaker regrets raising donation limit

Republican: Ohio reforms give rich too much influence

COLUMBUS (AP) -- A Republican state senator who helped shepherd a bill that quadrupled the amount Ohio candidates could accept from donors says he was wrong about the change, which he believes has created an elite class of donors.

"I think I took it too far," said Sen. Jeff Jacobson, of suburban Dayton.

He made the comments last week after campaign finance reports showed the Democrats' likely nominee for the governor's race, U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland, has collected the most $10,000 donations since the limit increase. The Democrats opposed allowing the larger contributions.

Snip...

Reports filed Tuesday showed Strickland received 86 contributions of $10,000 in 2005. That compares to 63 for Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell and 19 for Attorney General Jim Petro, Republican candidates in the governor's race.

Strickland said Jacobson's comments were puzzling.

"It's hard for me to accept ... that after a couple reporting periods when a Democratic candidate for governor seems to be doing pretty well under the system he worked so hard to put in place, that he would suddenly have a change of heart," Strickland said.

2. I was about to ask how the heck they thought
that this would be a "good thing" (the change) in the law given the scandals of Noe et al. Didn't give the appearance of stopping pay to play a single iota - and now, on top of it being bad public policy, it is biting them in the butt.

4. Maybe the rePuke is having a change of heart now
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 09:48 AM by sickinohio
that Tom Noe can't funnel his "Coingate" money to the rePukes, and he now realizes without that money, their scheme isn't going to work out the way they planned. Go Ted Strickland!!

5. He's disappointed because Republicans only take care of Republicans.
And the fool made a decision that helped the other side. This is against the Special "K" rules.

10. Just like the "reform" that opened the door to 527s that allowed
massive fundraising by groups like MoveOn. Heh-heh.

7. LOL. What a weenie!
And Blackwell is losing the money race.
But why isn't he in jail?

When it comes to the final push, election reform activists will help CRUSH Blackwell.
Bob Fritakis, who has done so much for election reform, is running for governor, too, as a Green, but I think he's still raising sigs to get on the November ballot.

a penny through the mail for his campaign. We did this last January 2005 when he was helping the rePukes make sure the election here was stolen, and that the re-count was crooked. I think they have to keep a record of every penney of contributions don't they? A penney to him and one to petro. Sorry the names are not capitalized. I can't bring myself to give the rePuke crooks that kind of respect.

8. It's looking into the future....
We'll see alot more Republicans quickly "changing their minds" about things when they're no longer the majority party. THAT'S when I'll get out my popcorn.
