2. Very obviously, somebody tried to cheat
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 01:13 PM by Gman
and they caught theirselves cheating.

It'll make a GREAT issue commercial in November. Voice over: "They can't even conduct their own election for House Majority Leader without cheating.

4. Nah - they're just too dumb to know who's allowed to vote.
A Rep from Puerto Rico, I think, who can't vote on the floor but can vote in party caucuses.

Sometimes they're both evil and stupid; sometimes it's just one or the other.

5. then why did they need to do a "do-over"?
if they DID have the right number of votes and just forgot, OH that's right, we had "x + 1" votes and "x + 1" is what's permitted, not just "x", then why didn't they just accept the first round of votes?

the fact that they did a do-over indicates that SOMETHING really was amiss, not just that they're stupid.

6. Very perceptive!
I hadn't thought of that. Maybe the whole "Puerto Rican rep voted" claim is just an excuse to cover what really happened. Another more mundane possibility is that there are House rules requiring a re-vote if there are any discrepancies. We should try to find out whether or not there is such a requirement. If not, then it does seem strange that a revote was required.

7. LOL
I just went to your link at rollcall.com which bills itself as "The Newspaper of Capital Hill Since 1955". Right smack in the top middle of the page there is a very prominent ad for the National Indian Gaming Association at www.indiangaming.org. For some reason that strikes me as funny.
