In future declaration of wars the children of the President and Congress
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 02:30 PM by MadMaddie
If there is a future war, they will have to "reinstate the draft" because there is no way they will have enough military men and women to sustain any efforts.

In future declaration of wars the children of the President and Congress their
"Young women and men" must be made to serve in the military along side everyone else. No special assignments, no soft jobs they must serve along the populace of american citizens in the military. No special wavers because they are in college, if they are reasonably healthy, walking and talking off they go!!

I think this would help in making sure that Congress and the President think long and hard about committing our countries military to unnecessary wars.

What are everyones thoughts on this?

(Edited to include draft statement)

1. I have always been in favor
of some type of compulsory service for every able bodied male and female

that would be TRUE equality - and no able to get into an easy unit cuz your daddy's a bigwig!~

3. I wouldn't go that far
but I definitely am in favor of compulsory military service for all able-bodied progeny of Congress and the President being sent, and being sent first, before all other comers, to any war zone.

We would never fight anything other than a defensive war. Period.

2. Brilliant thought!!
People are not paying enough attention to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This administration would do anything to prevent the draft because that is the only thing that makes the average American stand up and take notice.

4. First we have
to reinstitute the draft. A real liberal proposition. :sarcasm: Otherwise, why should they be required to go when nobody else is? And if you say, it's because your Daddy voted for war, what does that have to do with an innocent kid?

Now, if you were to required the people actually voting for war to join up, why you might have a debate.

5. Why should the children
be drafted into the mnilitary because of their parents political desires?

6. But that's the point....
The current Congress and the President take our lives and our children's lives for granted. They are elitist and really don't care either way whether our kids make it back or not.

If they believed their rhetoric and truly supported the soldiers in battle and returning home:

Do you honestly think that the body armor and vehicles would be second rate if their kids were over there?

If their kids were included-
Would they cut benefits to the soldiers returning?
Would they continue to close VA hospitals and make soldiers travel to other states to get care?
Would they question the validity of soldiers filing for PT SD?
Would mental health treatment be scheduled six months after returning to the states...

I think they would rethink some of the actions we have seen if their kids are on the line too...

I edited my original post to include "The Draft"

7. Now that you've edited your post
it makes more sense and opens up a different discussion, thanks.

Their children should have to face the same responsibility as any other person in this country, no more or no less. They shouldn't be singled out though just because their parent is a member of the congress. You would be using innocent people as a lever to get a certain response from the members of congress who make the laws.

8. You may have a point...
I guess I am trying to convey that we have to insure that not only that the American public bears the brunt of the President's and Congresses decisions but they have to bear the burden too. It's has to be fair across the board.
