Subject: $1 Million Taxpayer Embryo Adoption Awareness Campaign
As you think about the cutbacks in Pell grants to promote education, remember there has been a million dollar grant for educating citizens about embryo adoption!
The Christian Medical and Dental Association has received a $309,000 grant to conduct a PR campaign whose purpose is “… to educate Americans about the existence of frozen embryos (resulting from in-vitro fertilization) which are available for adoption. According to the press release, “The Baptist Health System Foundation in Knoxville, TN, which serves as the primary recipient of the HHS grant, will work with the National Embryo Donation Center and the Christian Medical & Dental Association to educate the public about embryo adoption.”

The purpose of the campaign is to educate Americans about the existence of frozen embryos (resulting from in-vitro fertilization) which are available for adoption. www.hhs.gov/budget/06budget/management.html (Scroll down to General Departmental Management)
CMDA is headquartered in Bristol, Tennessee, where it has 75 employees housed in an elaborate headquarters/meetings center built last year with a $10 million capital campaign. CMDA also has a one-person Virginia-based policy
office.
Another recipient of taxpayer-funded handouts for embryonic adoption is Snowflakes - a private organization that encourages infertile couples to 'adopt' frozen embryos. As of 2003 Snowflakes had received over $1 million from the Bush administration and Congress. 16 babies had been born (that’s works out to more than $62,500 per live birth of government money subsidizing private individuals). Additionally, couples are charged about $10,000 for the in vitro fertilization.
