Third Way's Middle Class project says opportunity no longer appeals to us.
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 12:45 PM by madfloridian
This is the group which is part of the DLC/PPI organization. It has its new website up, and its new goals. I wrote last night about their National Security Democrats.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2447635

I said this about my critique of them, that I thought we should be aware of their goals.

First I will make one thing clear. I will speak up when I differ with party policy. I will vote for the best man in the primaries. In the general election I will vote Democratic. I will not do anything to hurt the party.

However, I will critique and analyze what the DLC/PPI/and Third Way are doing. The Third Way is very tied with them, in fact they are the ones who appointed Hillary Clinton to do the American Dream Initiative...the new policy for them.

I will watch to see it how it fits in with the DNC policy coming out later, and I have my say if I don't like it. I had my say on some things today, and I will continue to do so. But I will vote in the general election for a Democrat...at least this year.

They are a think tank, they don't even list the DNC at their website. Many progressives think and say here at DU that if they withhold support from Howard Dean at the DNC that the rest of the party will listen. No, they won't. They have formed their own groups to set the agenda for the party. They don't want progressives nor do they need us.

During the course of the past century, the American economy has changed utterly, yet the basic economic message of progressives has barely evolved. As a result, a once-compelling vision of opportunity no longer appeals to many middle-class Americans.

Dear Third Way people:
Did you word that wrong? Yes, the vision of opportunity still very much appeals to middle class Americans. It is YOUR support of globalization with regulation that has hurt us immensely.

The Third Way Middle Class Project seeks to re-envision the progressive economic agenda and develop a new set of ideas and messages that will be embraced by the middle class. The Project seeks to realign progressive policies and narratives with the actual economic priorities, concerns and aspirations of today’s middle-class families and workers.

The progressive agenda, born of Theodore Roosevelt’s reforms and continued through the Great Society, brought fair labor standards, adequate wages, and decent benefits for workers. It also created the structures that brought wealth to the middle class: it increased college access, built highways, and electrified remote areas. Today, things are very different. In the global economy, blue-collar and white-collar workers alike are confronted with fierce competition for their jobs from billions of workers around the globe who run the gamut from unskilled to highly skilled.

No, Dear Third Way, the middle class did not change their goals. You changed the way the country and the world work, and you hurt us badly. Don't say we changed our own standards.

1. And coming up soon....
The Culture project (which I suspect will push some of my buttons)

The New South project, which we see in the words of Landreiu and Warner and Pryor. (I have a feeling some more buttons will be pushed on this one as well)

AND The Conservative Rebranding project. (I don't have a clue what that is.)

3. I am sure they will be swimming in
enthusiastic members. All the real money worshipers and opportunists are in the GOP groups and only go to fictions like this for sport, divisive diversions. The last DLC message boards were infested with people who had a field day getting these twits hackles up.

Such a philosophy is scant cover for the mere existence of a money interest in Democratic leadership. They talk about progressive gains of the past, rights won with blood and great cost by great people, and decide NOW progress means giving it all up for the easy temptations of money myths that lost us those rights in the first place. Regression is not a third way it is THE broad path to destruction.

Like the Monty Python pet shop where they put fins and gills on a dead parrot, this is transparently false that now we have perhaps a second way- of lying comparable to the RW tribal myths trying to reshape reality without getting caught.

It seems like a mildly heretical branch off the same old tired RW propaganda, anti-populist noise machine in search of a mike- and instead only getting a whisper campaign buzzing in the DNC ear with the lure of big big bucks and nebulous DINO's supplanting people of service and conviction everywhere., substituting entropy for both order and chaos. In fact, none of these people sound like working people unless their work is in money management and overseas job placements.

The only middle class people who have these modern ideas are assholes and those are Bush people to a fault or part of the suburban Hamlet swing voter coefficient that small time gamblers like to hedge with.
