Once and for all. The orators at Mrs. King's funeral reined in the anger.

For those who are here, and elsewhere, talking about how speakers at her funeral "disrepected" either Coretta Scott King or " the President" (as I saw gwb referred to, for the first time ever, here at DU), I have this to say...

If not now, when? You seem to believe we shouldn't rock the boat, disrupt the status quo or disrespect the "President".

Well, the historically great people who changed the world for the better, from Jesus to Gandhi to MLK himself believed you must hold people accountable for their participation in crimes against humanity.

gwb has no claim to the respect that used to be inherent with the title of "president". He is a corrupt, criminal, greedy, ignorant, racist, power grubbing sociopath.

The Rev. Joseph Lowery and Jimmy Carter had close, personal relationships with Coretta Scott King. Mr. "I won't go the NAACP convention cause they don't like me" did not.

He strummed a guitar while NOLA drowned. He is sending their sons and daughters to die in Iraq to enrich his oil buddies.

It's time to get angry. Since Jesus threw the money changers out the temple, anger has been a legitimate response to abuse by those in power. "Trying not to offend" gets you nothing of value and nothing worth fighting for.

There was so much more that could have been said at the service; and I commend the orators on their restraint.

1. I agree, I know that I will never forget the faces of those babies

in the Superdome, silently pleading for water, if the reporters could get through so could
water and food. I too think they were restrained and respectful of Dr. King and his wife.
Bush should be grateful that he wasn't jeered like he was at the Pope's funeral, and I doubt
that it was liberals since they were Itallians standing outside the church that booed when
Bush's face was shown on the video monitor to the crowds outside.

3. I know what you're saying. Watching, as an average citizen, I wanted

desperately to help, with no idea how I could. As CIC, he could have mobilized tremendous resources immediately with a single call or order.

He didn't, because he didn't care to.

When gwb spoke at her funeral, he was listened to, without boos, and politely applauded at the end of his speech. More than enough respect considering his actions of the last five years.

Like you, I am haunted by those images from NOLA. I can't imagine how Mrs. King felt during that time. So, all in all, he had a pretty easy time of it yesterday. MKJ

2. And, once and for all - the Repugs milked the Reagan funeral for

a full week of Conservative idolization and talking points. They are morans for even trying to get mileage on this. If musicians, die, other musicians will talk about music, if a Dem dies, we will talk about their vision of a Dem world, if a Repug dies, the same will happen. If an athlete dies, we will mention his love of the game and sports. What they are saying is that no one can celebrate the LIFE of the honoree at their funeral in case it might offend someone who might have tried to ignore that life or lead an entirely different life.

Let them attend another funeral. Maybe that of an unidentified Katrina victim. They may have been Republican in life. I am sure that in death, they are Democrats.

5. Great point. I was expecting synchronized swimmers and trapeze artists

to appear at the doors of the church, all dressed in red, white and blue, playing "America the Beautiful" on trombones as the procession neared.

4. I'm with you. MLK & Mrs. King were the real thing.

It is a sad to know that any one here on these boards would say anything about having any kind of respected for this piece of crap of President that we have. If anything he really didn't belong there. This is the same man that has not given a damn about the poor of this Nation or the one's that were dying in NO. Or how about our men and women in Iraq. Bush has so much American blood on his hands it make me wonder how this moron can sleep at night.

He has no concern that his administration is directly responsible for the loss of thousands of Amercian lives. Not to mention the tens of thousands of lives that are collateral damage to his war on terra.

... Bush's backers must have guilty consciences, or something. Jimmy Carter is getting slammed for noting that the Katrina disaster showed that black people don't have the same opportunities as white people. Discussing problems which he has already admitted implicate generations of policymakers, including himself (in multiple books, too) is hardly the same thing as a blatant personal attack -- and yet some pundits are treating it as if walked over to George and Laura, and slapped their faces.
