Randi's Rant: Delay (Please Tell Me You're Paying Attention Today)
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 02:30 AM by orleans
Feb. 8 2006 RANDI’S RANT

"And then Tom Delay is back. And guess where they put him? On the appropriations committee--the committee that actually writes the checks. Say….an indicted member of the house of representatives tries to change the rules before his indictment to say he can stay the leader of the republicans in the house. Even if he’s indicted they kinda try to change the rules & they go: “people are getting very wise to us so we better not change the rules.” They did change the rules actually, then they changed them back--saying “no, if your indicted you gotta go.”
So he was indicted and he did have to step down. The guy they picked is dirty as dirty can get--he’s a big tobacco whore who hands out checks on the house floor, bribing people to vote his way. But now they take Tom Delay--an indicted guy for…and they put him in charge of the appropriations…this is like putting Rush Limbaugh in charge of writing prescription drugs--it’s like putting Courtney Love in charge of the DEA (no offense) it’s like putting Tony Sopprano in charge of the gambling commission. You understand this?
Why don’t they just go all the way and name Tom Delay chairman of the ethics committee--I mean really, just go ahead and do it. Because it makes about as much sense. Tom Delay who can’t be trusted with maps and money…on the appropriations committee?
It’s back……
Oh, and by the way, he’s gonna be on the subcommittee overseeing the justice department. The guy is indicted. He’s going to be on the subcommittee? That oversees the justice depart…?
(Delay clip: “I don’t know what I’ve been indicted for”)
Yeah, I do. Money laundering. And so now they put him in charge of money. And they put him in charge of justice! The guy is indicted--he’s got a problem meeting the bar of justice--he’s got a problem with money laundering--and they put him in charge of appropriations!
Nobody understands how justice works better then somebody who spends their life trying to avoid it, they’ll say.
…So what is he gonna do? Reopen the investigation into him? And then say: “Oh, I just did a new investigation of myself and the indictment where I money laundered and I’m…..innocent.”
How does this work now? Lets just rename the whole justice asis, justice asis…I can’t even talk I’m so upset. I really am. I cannot believe this is where they put him. A money launderer gets put on the appropriations committee; an indicted guy gets put on the justice subcommittee.
You gotta be kidding me man. You know what I think is driving me crazy? Do you know why I think I am so upset? Cause I’m worried that too many people aren’t paying attention. And if we don’t pay attention this could all really work for them. I mean, it really could.
Please, tell me you’re paying attention today."

my comment: why don't the dems boycott the committees? from what i understand they need the votes of at least two minority members to put anything through. and if/when the press picks it up the dems can just point out...all of the above.

the justice department is investigating abramoff and delay is on the subcommittee? CALL YOUR REPS AND TELL THEM THIS IS A "REVOLVING DOOR OF CORRUPTION!"

7. Most of us have been paying attention.
The last speaker from the "Band of Brothers" group of new congressional candidates put it best as he rephrased the culture of corruption meme.
The culture of corruption is now the "crisis of corruption!" Indeed!

8. As long as there's no opposition party

and the Dems keep on rolling over and crossing party lines to vote with Republicans, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't keep on perpetrating these outrages.

From their point of view, it wouldn't make much sense for them to stop.

9. Republicans have lost it.
It's not just the moral compass thing, they are living on the part of the planet that makes compasses go crazy.

...to warn all Democrats that opposing this DeLay appointment is dangerous and could lead to further losses at the polls!
