http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/2/12/12247/2656In the glorious tradition of No Child Left Behind, Intelligent Design, denial of global warming, lipservice to science teaching, dismantling of most environmental oversight and enforcement functions, and protection of corporations from litigation, President George W. Bush, in his proposed budget for 2007, has cut all funding for the massive National Children's Study, a project approved in 2000. Here is the summary statement of the project, from their website:
The National Children's Study will examine the effects of environmental influences on the health and development of more than 100,000 children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21. The goal of the study is to improve the health and well-being of children.
This is an outrage.
And a lot of people who are concerned about autism and asthma will be pissed off if the word gets out.
