MANCHESTER - Don’t look now, but the contest for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination is already under way, and once again a little known southern governor is turning some heads.
Once, it was Jimmy Carter trekking north from Georgia. Then Bill Clinton from Arkansas. Now it’s former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, who this weekend made his second trip to New Hampshire, site of the nation’s first primary.

His message: I proved I could win and govern in a conservative "red" state, the kind of state Democrats need if they are ever to win back the White House. I’ve also got the management style they need if they want to get anything done after inauguration day.

The verdict was encouraging among party activists considering which candidate they’ll work for.

"He’s coming on strong," said Carol Shea-Porter, a Democratic candidate for Congress. "He’s getting noticed. People are talking about him."

Said Dick Swett, a former congressman from New Hampshire: "Those in the know have a very high opinion of him."

Cont'd.....

1. My efforts and vote would still go to John Kerry. Warner is green
on many important issues and after Bush is done we are going to need someone who can do more that get along with Repubs and manages well. Bush was strong on delegation and management skills and also he was noted as Governor of TX to be well liked and very bipartisan. It will take quite a lot more than what Warner is currently offering to get me to turn my head.

Mark Warner
Warner has no chance if Hillary Clinton gets in the presidential race.personally i hope she doesn't, I think she has to much baggage.

6. Welcome to DU bigdarryl
I think all the Dem hopefuls have a chance at this point, it's just too early for the '08 nomination prediction! Hillary still has to keep her seat in Senate, and I know the whole country has there eyes on New York :hi:

2. I'm a Virginian...and a Hillary Supporter...but
Warner is an impressive person. He could make a run here. His only real flaw is his speaking style in a question and answer format. He answers very intelligently, but his tyle is kind of halting and it's easy to lose track of what point he is making. He can work on this however.

8. He does have great crossover appeal in Virginia....
I think the next two years are going to be Candidate Training Camp for most of the hopefuls. He was a great CEO in Virginia, and why people like him.

What he lacks in flair, I see alot of compassion and intellect. He's in my top 3 right now :hi: (That would be Edwards-Warner-Feingold)

10. Welcome to DU !!!!!
Warner/Feingold would be AWESOME :hi: Actually, a southern red state bipartisan centrist dem gov and a popular liberal charismatic activist Senator doesn't sound too bad right now, in fact, darn electable !

Besides, I don't trust Mr. Bilderberg Warner. Starting to smell like a DLC-Dandy.
