Why aren't we talking more about the removal of the Abramoff prosecutor?
According to the August 8, 2005, LA Times, a US grand jury in Guam opened an investigation of Abramoff more than two years ago, but President Bush removed the supervising federal prosecutor, and the probe ended soon after. Now, on January 26, 2006, our Bush-bound Justice Department announced the chief prosecutor in the current inquiry would step down next week because he has been nominated to a federal judgeship by President Bush.

This is no coincidence people. This is a calculated removal of an aggressive prosecutor from an explosive case. Prosecutor Noel Hillman's nomination to a federal position comes just as the investigation is getting very public and expanding its scope. Remember, Hillman attended most of the negotiation meetings with Abramoff and co-conspirator Michael Scanlon.

1. Actually,
his name was in contention for the Federal judgeship two years ago - long before Abramoff appeared on the investigative screen.

But, yeah, they're weasels. SURPRISE!

Happy VD..........

3. I'm with you,
This needs why more attention. AG Gonzales will put one of his boy's in that seat, and it will just fade away. That's what i fear, a special prosecutor is what's needed here.

4. Whatever small measure of attention the gelding of the investigation
received in the media sank like a rock after one news cycle.

But really, how can we expect the public to get interested in a story that has no sex (or blood) and requires that they connect more than one dot in order to recognize the significance of the event?

Sinistrous

5. We are way too busy concerning ourselves with a hunting accident at the
moment. Isn't that the most important thing you can think of right now?

The timing is very disturbing but what's even MORE disturbing is that a prosecutor that is actually working toward some good would be willing to lay down his weapons to get that almighty judgeship by way of the very people he is trying to prosecute. It sickens me that everyone just seems to want the better position. Actual justice doesn't matter one bit to these people!

Sadly, a lot of lawyers really are scum. Move them up in the food chain and they will be willing to overlook ANYTHING!
