Saddam Hussein told the court that he and his co-defendants are on hunger strike

Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein told the court on Tuesday that he and his co-defendants are on a hunger strike to protest their treatment, BBC reported.

"We have been on a hunger strike for three days," Saddam Hussein declared as the trial resumed for its 12th session since it opened last October.

He then denounced the court as a U.S. puppet and shouted in praise of the Iraqi people, saying "Long live the great Arab nation" and "long live the mujahideen.”

1. Fair trials are a wonderful thing
and a mark of civilization, but they do give a podium to megalomaniacs, eg Milosevic at The Hague. Very wearying.
