FBI has over 1100 pages on ACLU since 9/11
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 08:14 AM by Neil Lisst
On CSPAN now, the director of the ACLU said they have learned the FBI has gathered 1100 pages of information on the ACLU since 9/11.

What in the world is the FBI doing keeping files on the ACLU?

I can only imagine the one they must have on DU!!

This reminds me of a 30 year old skit from Saturday Night Live, where someone checks under the FOIA for their FBI file. The FBI doesn't have one, but as soon as the person leaves, the FBI opens a file on the person.

I imagine asking the FBI for your file is enough to get a file opened if one isn't already.

2. I'm sure the FBI wanted membership lists as well as wanting
to know which areas of civil liberties it would have to "protect from the ACLU". After all, that's the epicenter of American terrorists . . .

3. Gee - I wonder why the ACLU...
The American system of government is founded on two counterbalancing principles: that the majority of the people governs, through democratically elected representatives; and that the power even of a democratic majority must be limited, to ensure individual rights.

Majority power is limited by the Constitution's Bill of Rights, which consists of the original ten amendments ratified in 1791, plus the three post-Civil War amendments (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and the 19th Amendment (women's suffrage), adopted in 1920.

The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.

Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.

Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.

Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.

We work also to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including Native Americans and other people of color; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people; women; mental-health patients; prisoners; people with disabilities; and the poor.http://www.aclu.org/about/index.html

Could it be 1984 is really here?

You can bet your bippy they are spying on everyone, and I mean everyone, they consider to be a threat to their corrupt cabal, or a supporter of the US Constitution.

6. With all the ACLU FOI requests, and complaints of rights abuses
the ACLU has been making since 911 the 1100 pages may actually be mostly material sent by the ACLU to the Justice Department and the FBI.

8. If Bush had paid attention his first 40 years, he'd understand ...
But he didn't, so he doesn't understand or respect the thing that makes America America. It's not the ability to prance, and strut, and talk big, and order soldiers into battle. ANY leader can do that.

Bush doesn't appreciate the right his opponents have to disagree with him, to talk to each other about it, to protest his policies, and to oppose the election of his party. He thinks he's America now.

9. bu$h is insecure. Dissent is threatening.
He is also reality challenged. He does not understand that in this country he obtains his authority from the people. That the Constitution defines and limits his powers.

Too bad we do not have a two party system anymore. Kerry rolling over and keeping silent did far more damage than most people realize. It gave credence to the criminals "winning" the last presidential election.
