Poll: Americans more ready for woman president

February 19, 2006, 6:33 PM EST

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ A majority of American voters remain ready to elect a woman president and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is making gains on that front while Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's support remains steady, according to nationwide poll released Sunday.

In the poll commissioned by Hearst Newspapers, the percentage respondents who said Rice should run for president swelled to 48 percent, up from 42 percent in a similar poll conducted in February of last year.

Clinton, who polls show leading all potential Democratic candidates for the party's 2008 nomination, saw mounting resistance to a presidential campaign: 44 percent of the people polled said she should not run, up from 37 percent a year ago. At the same time, 51 percent said she should run. Fifty-three percent said she should run in last year's poll.

3. I think that Condi
knows she can not run.....a puppet needs lots of strings to make it move and talk. And where the fuck did this "Poll: Americans more ready for woman president" come from? Judging by the last two stolen elections - there is still a large group of people in this country who would rather go with the conservative flow then ever see a woman in the most powerful position in the world (or maybe the second, or perhaps third.....:sarcasm:) ..... there needs to be a huge amount of enlightenment to happen before we get to that place. Those statements smack of Repuke yellow journalism...

7. Don't believe this nonsense..
.... the Republicans are in FULL TILT BOOGIE to convince us to nominate Hillary (so they can cut her off at the knees, which will be a piece of cake for them).

Part of their strategy is to pretend to plan to offer up a female candidate of their own.

Think about it - who would vote for Condi? Blacks hate her, southern whites hate her, hispanics aren't going to go for her because she is black and female, just exactly who is going to vote for her? Nobody, that's who, and the Republicans know it.

This is all a game to convince us to nominate Hillary. There is NO FREAKING WAY they are going to nominate Condi - but if they did it would be a dream come true for us.

10. Oh yah, let a WOMAN CLEAN UP THIS MESS
sorry typical...make a disaster call in Mom.
:sarcasm:

but really, whoever gets this job...it'll take freakin' years
to clean up. You need to elect 5 Presidents for the next term
to get a jump on this.

12. Why is there always an assumption
that if the Republicans were to nominate Condi Rice, the Democratic party would have to put up a woman to run against her? Isn't that kind of a reverse sexist thing? Just because one party decides to have a woman as its candidate, it doesn't mean the other party should feel forced to as well.

We should choose the best candidate for our party. I don't care whether it's a man or a woman, and the gender of the Republican nominee shouldn't enter into it.
