Why Bush would back the port deal all the way to a veto.
Politics.

Imagine Congress nearly unanimously rejects the deal. Then Bush vetoes. Then Congress overrides.

Bush has "lost." But the GOP Congress has given themselves something to run on: security mindedness and independence from an unpopular president. The Dems would have a harder time beating up GOP candidates with the fact that they have been nothing but a rubber stamp for Junior.

What can we do about that?

1. We counter it with...
It should have never been on the table in the first place....and since we are in a "Post 9/11" environment it should have never been approved. The repugs did this secretly.....

2. The bushCabal TIES that bind.
WASHINGTON - The Dubai firm that won Bush administration backing to run six U.S. ports has at least two ties to the White House.

One is Treasury Secretary John Snow, whose department heads the federal panel that signed off on the $6.8 billion sale of an English company to government-owned Dubai Ports World - giving it control of Manhattan's cruise ship terminal and Newark's container port.

Snow was chairman of the CSX rail firm that sold its own international port operations to DP World for $1.15 billion in 2004, the year after Snow left for President Bush's cabinet.

The other connection is David Sanborn, who runs DP World's European and Latin American operations and who was tapped by Bush last month to head the U.S. Maritime Administration.

3. I sort of think Bush will win,. Money talks
I am not sure that Congress will worry about getting back into Congress or the money made by big wigs in on this deal and deals sort of mixed into this. It looks very fishy

5. If we get subpoena power Bush is doomed.
He needs both houses of Congress in GOP hands for the remainder of his term. Vetoing would be a sacrifice move to achieve a bigger, hidden win.

6. Imagine the Repubs who vote FOR this port turnover to the UAE
Imagine those Repubs losing in Nov.

There will be about 60 -70 Repubs who will vote against an override. Show me the pics of the happy, happy Dem PR people sending out notices about the Repubs and how they 'sold out America on security.'
