Just got a call from the Republican Congressional Committee
I was asked if I thought it would be a good thing if the Democrats gained power in Washington this fall. I replied with enthusiasm that I thought it would be terrific. The caller thanked me for my time and I got in one parting shot commenting that I used to be a Republican but no longer.

When my majorly repug Mom died I had the pleasure of telling the caller that "No, she would NEVER have wanted to come to have breakfast with Laura *- Not after what they've done to our country!

Jeez. As I hung up, there was a whole lot more I wish I had said!

My parents were loyal Republicans back when Republican really meant moral and fiscal conservativism. They also lived through the Great Depression and understood that social programs were important.

If they were alive today, they would not recognize the current party as theirs...
