Lamont vs. Lieberman - "magnetizing darkhorse"
Lamont, Darkhorse Candidate for Lieberman Seat, Magnetizes Dems

By PATRICIA Mc CORMACK HYPERLINK

mailto:pmccormack@bcnnew.com pmccormack@bcnnew.com

"I know he's running for office because he's wearing a tie," Democratic Town Committee (DTC) Chairman Jim Himes said Thursday evening when a smiling Ned Lamont, former Greenwich selectman, strode into a packed Town Hall Meeting Room. Lamont, the main event for the monthly DTC meeting, wants American troops out of Iraq and a few other changes from President George W. Bush's way of doing things. He related that he was provoked by Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman's op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal in Novem-ber. There was only one thing to do about that, Lamont's inner voice told him: Run against the senator in the November election.

2. I never would have dreamed....
that when I was 17 yrs old in 1970, head over heels in love with politics, that the first candidate I'd work for would be a young challenger to the incumbent, Lowell Weicker. His name was Joe Lieberman.

Ohhh, if I'd only known then what I know now. But as they say, a mistake doesn't become an error unless it's not corrected!

Bye bye, Joe!!!

3. Two scenarios:
First, if Lamont wins the nomination, will he hold Joe's seat?

Second, what happens if Lamont wins the nomination, and Holy Joe crosses over and runs on the (R) side against Lamont. Would Ned beat him in the GE?

4. I may be wrong, but the scenario you suggest would only work if
JL ran as an Independent; technically ineligible to run as an R at that point

5. correct - barring some odd circumstance
leaving no one on the repub ballot and the party able to "nominate" after all legal dates for filing are over and the person named were Lieberman - this would be very, very unlikely.

6. Please take a closer look.
Joe has more support from Republicans than Dms (at least by percentage). Lamont is close on the Dem side, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's ahead with primary voters.

The onlyh downside I see is to the house races. CT is very blue and should pick as many House seats as possible. I will support Lamont with a house perty and a few bucks, but in my district I feel it is crucial to dump Rob Simmons and I will spend more energy trying to elect Joe Courtney.

8. Holy Joe must be defeated at all costs!

He is as much of a traitor as Marshal Henri Pétain when he agreed to lead the pro-German Vichy regime in France.

When Bush kissed Holy Joe on his cheeks, I could only think of this picture of Pétain shaking hands with his German master:

French Marshal and Vichy leader
Philippe Petain and Nazi leader
Adolf Hitler meet at Montroire
on October 24 1940.

Every incumbent needs to face their words; LIEberman needs to face his.

He hints that he plans to run as an Independent.
