NY-Gov: Its offical, Suozzi to challenge Spitzer in primary.
GLEN COVE, N.Y., Feb. 25 — Thomas R. Suozzi, the Nassau county executive and a self-styled renegade Democrat, announced Saturday that he was challenging Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for his party's nomination for governor, running as an underdog who will rely to an unusual degree on businesses leaders who have been sued by Mr. Spitzer and New Yorkers who dislike his tactics.

Mr. Suozzi's bid, declared at a boisterous rally in his Long Island hometown here, stands as a direct affront to the New York Democratic Party, which is behind Mr. Spitzer with rare unanimity in the hope of electing the first Democrat as governor since Mario M. Cuomo was defeated in 1994.

"This will be a tough fight: My opponent will have the vote of almost every single Democratic Party boss," Mr. Suozzi told a crowd of more than 1,000 supporters, after taking the stage to the music of U2's "Beautiful Day."

You're trying to bloody Spitzer and you know it! Explain you're donations from Kenneth Langone. I'll be damned if we have a Governor Weld or Governor Faso after this! Suozzi is just doing this for ego.

3. "every Democratic BOSS?"
Gee whiz, what an underdog, all the bosses are against him.

Of course, like all DINOs, he's got that exactly backwards: the bosses are nervous about Spitzer and put Suozzi up to cost him money.

4. Wake up, little Suozzi.......
you don't have a ghost of a chance. Spitzer will chew you up and Spitzer you out. Anybody in bed with the people Spitzer has culled is NOT a friend of the people. Not a chance in hell, Suozzi.

5. ROTF! "Wake up, little Suozzi" is priceless!
When I was three, I often sand that song for the amusement of my parents guests!

Suozzi is just as screwed as Susie was back in the 50's.

10. no, joe is doin his own thing this year in CT
Although Spitzer was a big Joementum fan during the primaries. He didn't endorse Lieberman, but he did claim all anti war dems unelectable (he was referring to Dean).

I doubt that I will carry petitions for any gov. candidate except Spitzer. Are there any anti-war candidates? This war has not made upstate NY'ers safer. At least a dozen upstate NY'ers have died due to the iraq war.

Right? If Lieberman campaigns for anyone, it will be Spitzer.

8. What an idiot
Why isn't he running against Peter King? He actually could win that one. Spitzer will probably break 70% in the primary.

11. He is maintaining his county executive post, I think.
I don't know why he is running against Spitzer. I'm not sure what he is out to prove. If he beats Spitzer and wins the governors race, I want him to run for pres. in 2008. He would have proved to me that he can campaign to beat the machine!:kick:

12. That was exactly my thought

But he doesn't want to one of 400+ congressional members- he is the County 'Executive" and wantd to be Governor. He is relying on his prettiness. He's prettier than Spitzer.

I work for Suffolk County government and the Democrats here are solidly behind Spitzer- no one wants Suozzi and no one wants the balance of power to shift in Nassau back to a a Republican machine. I don't know how familiar you all are with Nassau politics- but the Legislature is not functioning there at all- there is a power struggle for leadership despite a Democratic majority. Two Democrats have sided with Republicans to wrestle away leadership from the majority- it is a mess.

A perfect time for a Republican to try to regain he COunty Executives seat which will make it that much harder with a Democratic controlled Legislature and Democratic County Executive in SUffolk to work toward regional planning and solutions which are sorely needed and long overdue.

I wish Suozzi would just concentrate on cleaning up the mess in his own county, or taking out that asshole Peter King.

14. I like Suozzi
and in reality, he's not running because he thinks he can win, he's running to get his name known in the state for when he makes a run at being governor in 2010 or 2014 or whenever Spitzer decides to run for president.

Spitzer will win this primary easily, Suozzi won't be much of a challenger. And then Spitzer will win the governorship easily. So I don't see what the problem is.

17. That's why I can't stand Suozzi at this point
If he's just running because he won't have another opportunity, or to simply pimp himself out to voters for name recognition, then he does not deserve the votes of New Yorkers. That and his support from Langone make me uncomfortable with him.

15. NYC should become a state already
Suozzi knows nothing about the rest of New York except that a lot of repukes from all over the state will be giving him money to mess with Spitzer. Have the Repukes decided this week's statewide candidates, or we still using last week's?
