If you come out against ports deal, you might make the Arabs angry?
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 02:01 PM by kentuck
Seems to be the argument of this Administration. We don't want to discriminate against them on this ports deal, otherwise, they may think we think less of them than we do the British. Huh? We don't want to make the Arabs angry at us. Well, if that is the goal, then why not turn our troops around in Iraq, announce that we have no plans for any permanent posts in that country, and withdraw. Then, apologize for the ill-advised and stupid invasion. Of course, they did not get angry at us for that? Only that we might not approve the ports sale? Huh?

1. Maybe Bushco should sell
Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and the "Extraordinary Rendition" planes to the arabs too as a sign of good faith.

4. I doubt that any of them are very fond of Bush...
already. He shouldn't worry about making them angry at us. They are already angry at us.

6. That's what one of the guests on Lou Dobbs was saying Friday..
And Lou kept cutting in on him saying something to the sort of "OH CRY ME A FRIGGIN RIVER"!

Sometimes a certain topic really sets a fire under Lou's ass and he gets pissed. Friday was one of those days. Lou couldn't believe the administration had resorted to being wimpy woosies afraid to back out of the deal!

You could tell this is an issue he'll be talking about a LOT next week.

Go for it Lou!

Seems to me like they are admitting that they have gotten us into a position where we can be blackmailed by these dictators.

12. Could you imagine if KERRY said that?
Bill Maher said the other night-could you imagine if, during a debate in '04, Kerry said he wanted to have an Arab company managing our ports so they wouldn't be mad at us? Wasn't he already ridiculed for caring what other countries thought about us and the Repubs. were like, "F*** that-who cares about what any other countries feel about us? They weren't hit on 9/11!" Now they talk about hurting the Arabs' feelings? A country that was complicit in 9/11???

16. I've been saying this to Bush supporters...
and they have NO response other than to say they trust Bush to "keep us safe." I don't think they could even PROCESS the thought of accepting this very same deal if KERRY would've suggested it.

15. You know it doesn't matter a stitch.
The koolaid will be flowing freely and fourty five days from now it will sail through. And anyone still standing up against it will be name called and ridiculed. It's starting already.

Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 12:50 AM by kentuck
But if they are worried about pissing off the Arabs, I would think they did that sufficiently well when they invaded Iraq and tortured those people at Abu Graib. Are we to believe they were OK with that but that they might be pissed off if this trade deal not go thru? A little stretch of the imagination, wouldn't you think?

Editorial

View from Dubai

23 February 2006

EVEN as the world’s attention is riveted on Dubai’s ambitious and high profile $6.8 billion bid for the UK-based ports operator, P&O, the Gulf investors are making big splash around the world, especially in Asian markets.

The US interest groups may have worked themselves up over the Dubai Ports World’s winning bid for the P&O that allows the Dubai and UAE to control some of the most important ports around the world including those in the US. But other big markets elsewhere such as the growing economies of China, India and Far East are only too willing to welcome investments from this part of the world.

In fact, according to available economic inputs, the Middle Eastern wealth, buoyed by the recent upsurge in oil prices, is playing a crucial role in big markets other than those in the West. The fact that not only big Middle East-based companies and investors but the governments in the region are looking to diversify their resources and financial assets to invest in non-oil sectors. Hence the attention on Asian markets which are hungry for more investments even as they are linked to US dollar, the currency of global oil industry, offering reassuring economic stability.

This is a significant shift that could have important political and economic implications in the years to come. Since, historically speaking, the West — US and Europe — have always been a favourite destination for Gulf investments, this shift of economic focus is remarkable although not altogether. After all, post September 11, we are living in an altogether different world.

21. And exactly why should I worry about Arabs angrier than.......
.....they already are most of the time? Personally, I think we should send Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Rice, and all others of like mindedness over to the Middle East on a one-way "fact finding" mission.
