DNC Convention in New Orleans
I've heard a lot of people say that we should have our 08 convention in NO. Personally, I'm against this. While I do admit it would be a boon for the city financially, I'm a Democrat because I believe we are better than them. They chose NYC for their convention to try to make a partisan issue out of 9/11 and that was wrong then, and I think it would be wrong for us to do it now.

2. DNC spring meeting is being held there in April.
It was announced a while ago.

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic National Committee will hold its spring 2006 meeting in New Orleans, providing an economic boost of 400 visitors as the city continues its recovery from Hurricane Katrina, officials said Monday.

"We wanted to make a statement that New Orleans will come back and we wanted in a small way to contribute to that effort by moving a major convention to New Orleans," party Chairman Howard Dean said in a telephone interview.

Dean said he decided to schedule the spring meeting in New Orleans after reading that the city is struggling to resume its once substantial convention business after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. He previously decided to move away from tradition by not holding the spring meeting in Washington D.C., but he said that he had not determined the location until he was able to get a firm commitment for hotel rooms in New Orleans.

3. the difference being, the dems would be doing it to HELP the city-how
the morans on the right would perceive it, and choose to use it, is THEIR problem. if they try to say anything, we can shove NY right back down their throats/

6. I support New Orleans for the convention
because I want as many Democrats as possible to see what the Republicans would happily let happen to any city in America.

If New Orleans had been invaded by a foreign power, bombed by terrorists, would it look worse?

5. By all means let us rise above the political squabble.
Being above all that has worked very well for us in the past. Just look, we control none of the branches of government.

7. I think New Orleans would be a great place for the convention
The city needs the money, and more attention from the media will help show people that New Orleans is open for business, perhaps not a livable city yet, but certainly on the road to recovery.

11. I agree
Having the convention in New Orleans will seem partisan, as though we're using other people's suffering to score political points.

12. NOLA
I think both parties should have their conventions in NO, and give them the superbowl as well. Not only does it add to their economy, but keeps them in the media spotlight and public consciousness as well.

14. Agreed!
The RNC chose New York in 2004 for the same reason, so I say do it and be proud!
