1. There was a thread a bit ago
That disporved his partisanship. It was an interview with some magazine. He detested being called a Republican. Maybe somebody has the link?

2. Well he SAYS he's not a Republican, at least
Here's an... interesting little rant from the man:

http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=interviews&id=5913

Q: You are one of the few major Hollywood stars who are proud to be Republican...

Willis: Let me stop you right there. I'm a Republican — and everybody write this down because I'm sick of answering this fucking question.

Q: Can I continue –

Willis: You can continue, but let me answer that part of it. I'm a Republican only as far as I want a smaller government, I want less government intrusion, I want them to stop pissing on my money and your money, the tax dollars that we give 50 per cent of or 40 per cent of every year, and I want them to be fiscally responsible, and I want these goddamn lobbyists out of Washington. Do that and I'll say I'm a Republican. But other than that, I want the government to take care of people who need help, like the kids in foster care, the half a million kids who are in orphanages right now, they call them foster homes but they're orphanages. I want them to take care of the elderly and give them free medicine, give them whatever they need. There's tons, billions and billions of dollars that are just being wasted. Okay? I hate government. I'm apolitical. Write that down. I'm not a Republican.

3. Oh my God
Based on that answer Bruce Willis is a Democrat and just too bloody stupid to know it. Does he really think there's a Repub anywhere who will do ANY of those things? That's just sad.

6. Somehow the meme is that Dems 'like big government'.
No, we don't like big government just simply for the sake of big government... We don't want our elderly freeze to death, or little kids starve to death. I'm willing to pay taxes to try to keep that from happening in America. No matter how many baloney sandwiches a local church group passes out, that will never be enough to address the hunger problem in America. It takes a massive effort to combat hunger that can't be handled on a local level... hence the need for federal resources (food stamps etc). Just like a federal government is needed to provide national defense, big problems like poverty also require large scale action on the federal level.

If there is government waste or corruption then lets address that, and not blame that on the basic mission (providing a social safety net).

8. Rush Limbaugh was instrumental
in reinforcing the "Big-Government Liberal" meme. God knows I bought into it sink, line, and hooker for many years. But all it takes is one honest look at what the Republicans are actually doing - increasing the size and scope of government, only to imperial ends rather than humanitarian ones. I don't want big government, I want efficient, effective government. I do want a government that basically leaves people alone. But it also needs to make sure basic human needs are met. We claim to be a civilized and advanced nation, but the numbers of elderly and working poor who go without basic health care gives the lie to our claim. If other countries can make it happen for their people, then we damn well can for ours. This is one of our biggest failures as a nation.

11. I had a boyfriend in college who was into "get the government
off our backs." One day I said: "So, what government regulations should we abolish? Food inspection? Nuclear power plant safety? Water cleanliness? ..." and on and on. He didn't really have an answer for me, and he finally said, "You know. You're right. I never really thought about it."

10. Homeland Security is an example of Big Government.
FEMA was crippled when it was shoved into that huge department.

Who feels more secure now?

7. I think there are a lot of Republicans who are like that.
They just, for some reason, think that the Repug party stands for those things, even though, especially since Bush II have done the opposite again and again.
