Reagan's former Navy Secretary is running for the senate
against Allen in Virginia as a Democrat.
Nice to see more are stepping into the light.

I heard this on Stephanie Miller.

1. He was SECNAV
when I was in the Navy and I recall him as an arrogant hard-nosed pain in the ass former marine; but, that's okay. I truly hope the "conservatives" get stupid and try to swiftboat him.

7. Once he gets the seat and Bush is gone 2 yrs later,
will he stay a Democrat. Why not consider the real Democrat who was endorsed by Warner instead of going for the shiny ex-military officer.

5. There is a real Demaocrat running in the primary too
Webb may disagree with Bush, but that doesn't mean he agrees with any Democratic values or ideals on anything else. He endorsed the very conservative Allen (who had been Governor) just 6 years ago.

He was nearly as bad as the SBVT in 2004 where he trashed John Kerry in many many articles. If he was sincere in his concern on Iraq, he should have been man enough to make peace with a man he has hated for 30 years for telling the truth! (Even if you accept his view of Kerry's protesting - it's still less bad than what Bush did.

Recent polls vs Allen show both Webb and Miller with nearly similar numbers. Miller's background is IT - a field that no one in the Senate is expert in. Maybe people should look at him - before deciding a creep like Webb should get the honor of representing the party.

4. Webb has one attribute that causes me to support him ......
..... 'priciple'.

He told Ronnie to pack salt in his ass when he tried to do harm to Webb's Navy. He quit rather than go along to get along.

Is he the most liberal man you'll ever meet? Not by a long shot. But he's honest and true to his convictions .... and most of them align with ours far more than with the RW.

Read his book (title escapes me at the moment). He speaks about race in America and about Scot/Irish southerners and how their relation with American blacks created a social brew that has hurt America.

In short, while he's no ultra lefty, he 'gets it."

I like him.

6. Maybe his 2004 actions sliming the Democratic candidate

should be given some weight.

We all thought that was the most important election - and he helped Bush. Think of everything that was at risk and consider how small minded he was to repeatedly let his hatred of John Kerry interfere with weighing all the issues. For example, Kerry wouldn't have nominated ALito or Roberts to the Supreme Court. Kerry wouldn't have put John Bolton at the UN. Kerry wouldn't have alienated the entire world. I understand his hatred of Kerry was deep, but he should have been man enough to move beyond it - Consider that Kerry shoke Nixon's hand when Nixon sought him out in the Senate in the 1990s, even though Nixon asked his staff to destroy Kerry, which greatly hurt him and his family.

Whether he accepts it or not, Vietnam was a fiasco as even its architechs admit and the US did commit war crimes. Kerry blamed those in authority, far more than the soldiers and he never said everyone did these things. Webb is also very dishonest when he said Kerry's testimony worsened the reputation of the military in Vietnam. Before Kerry, the most soldier in the field most known to Americans was Lt Calley. There was enormous coverage of what happened at My Lai. Certainly, Kerry speaking on TV improved people's perception of the soldiers caught in that nightmare. (That at least was the reaction in the college dorm I was in - we watched the news together as there was only one tv.)

9. This is why I won't be voting for him in the primary...
He aided and abetted the swift boating of Kerry...however, I won't have any trouble voting for him in the general if he gets the nom (which I think he will). He would certainly be an improvement over Allen.

10. Smells like a DINO to me!
Let's let him vote Dem, before he tries to take office as a Dem.

12. I say let the DINO play ball...
even a DINO is better than an out-and-out (R). If Webb can beat Allen, we stand a good chance of taking back the Senate. If it takes a few DINOs getting elected to achieve that goal, so be it. Once we're in control, we can place more-progressive Democrats at the heads of the committees and control the agenda. Once that happens, the end of the Bush administration occurs in 2006 instead of 2008.

Would I allow a few more DINOs in Congress if it meant the early end of the Bush administration? You betcher ass I would.
