the vast majority of kennedy-haters don't give a rat's ass about that woman. if kennedy were a republican they wouldn't talk about it at all, or they'd accused her of having killed herself to embarrass a fine republican, or they'd bash her as a drunkard and a slut.

all they care about is that it's a useful talking point to bash a prominent liberal, and if they didn't have that one, they'd just find another one.
