Harris' Senate campaign 'imploding'

The last of U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris' key staffers appear ready to abandon her campaign for the U.S. Senate in a wave of resignations expected to start this weekend.

Sources close to the campaign said Friday that the defections would touch virtually every level of her operation.

Harris, who is running against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, is likely to lose her chief political strategist, her campaign manager, her spokeswoman, her director of field operations and even a traveling aide who helps hand out stickers at campaign appearances.

It is the latest and most dramatic indication so far that her campaign is on the verge of collapse.

25. Correct- we need her in until the end when it's too late for a substitute.
Chances are they will rig it anyway if they want to but at least with the odds stacked against her and the polls showing such a huge gap, they might think twice about it. If they put someone else in who might come closer to Nelson then they will be far more likely to flip the votes.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Katherine Harris' U.S. Senate campaign lost what was left of its core team when a top adviser, campaign manager, and communications director resigned this weekend.

Harris, a Republican congresswoman challenging incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, said Saturday she would introduce new members of her campaign early in the week.

---snip---
Among those resigning over the weekend were Ed Rollins, a political adviser to President Reagan; campaign manager Jamie Miller; press secretary Morgan Dobbs; and other key staff.

Can a candidate still file at this late date? They'd have to gather an awful lot of signatures in an awful short period of time to make it happen... basically the Rethugs would need like.... i don't even know who could pull it off, maybe some Ahnold-type washed up Floridian actor. I'm not going to try and think who could be a viable candidate for them cuz they're probably readin this...

27. Ion Sancho...
if you don't know who Ion Sancho is, you must read up on this developing situation. By taking one courageous action and letting an independent computer expert inspect a tiny memory card on a Diebold Voting machine, he is repsonsible for the greatest progress toward saving our democracy. if only there were more election supervisors who gave a crap in this country.

his action is responsible for what is going on in California - McPherson temporarily decertified Diebold... then he sent the memory cards to a team of experts at Berkely who confirmed the problems and found they are actually ILLEGAL. Now there's a lawsuit against McPherson and Senator Debra Bowen is running for Secretary of STate, on the issue, attacking McPherson for illegally re-certifiying Diebold.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2546384

This thread could use a few nominations! This particular petition goes to the Committee where this bill has been stuck for years, so it's kind of important!

There are over 160 co-sponsors but unless it gets to the floor, none of them or anyone else in the House, can even vote on it.

It's the best bill of this type in Congress at the moment."

21. She's Incredible!
This week, Harris e-mailed supporters saying that the media have "relentlessly and personally attacked" her for months.

She said it was critical that supporters contribute to her campaign so she could unseat Nelson.

Now, however, staffers may be as big a concern as money.

"Right now, I don't think anybody with any credibility would touch her," Johnson said.

"I'm not sure what she can do."

55. Yah, I know.
With a big enough groundswell - huge, I'm talking about - the advantage of counting the votes may be overcome. With enough light shed on this issue and enough suspicious eyes monitoring the process, two things may happen.
One is that a vast number number of centrist votes can shift to the dem side of the ledger, raising the general awareness to the point that "come from behind 'victories'" will immediately be subject to the glare of an outraged electorate.
And, two, with the house of cards turning into a house of shards around them, the "tools" of the crooked voting managers and enablers may well opt to come forward and fess up to their nefarious misdeeds, preferring to reduce their own exposure by exposing their cohorts.
The indomitable Ms. Harris may well become a valued instrument of her own and her co-conspirators' destruction.

43. Ever step on a pregnant spider before?
Not that this witch is prego but the analogy holds I think. When a very pregnant spider is stepped on, squished, or squashed etc. Thousands of baby spiders are released to run a muck. Watch out what we wish for.
I want Harris around till voting day. As long as she is the "face" of the Repugnant party I love it! That painted, sprayed, perfectly glued, and pasted on face and hair is a good thing for Dem's every time she is shown in the mass media. I'd much rather see that bucket of industrial strength eye liner run after she looses to our Democratic Brother. If the spider is crushed too early we loose all of that publicity; reminding people of the injustice done by the Head Justices in 2000. So for now "Run Kathy Run" Please spend that 10 million dollars of inheritance, trust fund, kickback or whatever the word is for all that cash is this week, and help us make OUR day more special. Don't squish the spider just yet, imho. Let her web be spun, come to full term and then set a torch to the spider and to each little make-up covered spiderette that emerges. Be patient my fellow Americans

Thanks and Be Blessed, Michael RedTail Wolf
