Contacted my Senators, Congressperson re: Gas Prices and CAFE
I have just e-mailed, and called Senators Feinstein and Boxer and Congressperson Lofgren.
    1. Raise CAFE to what is possible using "best available technology" - and let the Big Three's engineers make make it into the "best feasible technology" - suggest 45-50 mpg as short range target.

    2. Hold drilling in ANWR and drilling in immediate off shore areas (and even downtown New Orleans and downtown LA and down town Houston) hostage to raising CAFE.

    3. The $100 tax rebate is bull. Suspending the $0.18 gas tax is phony. Suspending feeding the Strategic Reserve is short sighted and may backfire.

    4. RAISE CAFE NOW

    5. I may just go to the GM Shareholders meeting - and make an issue about killing the GM EV electric car, and meaningful hybrid technology. Those of you who follow my appends know that I am crazy enough to do it.

CAFE standards. They want taxpayer dollars to subsidize research into more fuel efficient vehicles. I have a hunch this is what they'd do. I figure they'd rather keep their money rather than spend it on R&D. Afterall, if you're only interested in profit, you'd rather have that money in your pocket, not tied up in something worthwhile like R&D into better vehicles and better engines.

2. Fair price
The "Big Three" will ask for another corporate handout to comply with CAFE standards.
May be a fair price to pay to keep from totally offshoring that industry too
They want taxpayer dollars to subsidize research into more fuel efficient vehicles.
    (1) Actually, the taxpayers have already paid for a lot of that research.
    (2) Don't knock it - it paid my salary and paid for my kids' educations at Michigan State Univ.

A lot of the research has been done - just not implemented in revenue products.
