Democratic candidate packs a house party full in Tampa

(ALEX LEARY, St. Petersburg Times)TAMPA - Blown away by a speech Rod Smith gave in December, Francine Simmons decided to throw a house party for the Democratic candidate for governor Monday.

Nothing To Worry About? Electronic Voting

(Editorial, Lakeland Ledger)Several state legislators filed bills this year -- to no avail -- to require that touchscreen voting machines have the capability of producing a paper record of votes cast.
"If I can get a receipt when I drive through an ATM to fill up my car with gas, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to get one when I vote," argued Sen. Rod Smith, D-Gainesville, who also happens to be running for governor.

1. Yep, Rod's the guy.
I can't stand Jim Davis. I've seen Rod several times this year.

2. Keep Rod Smith kicked!
I hear all over Tampa..it is only "old money" going to him, and even that support is going soft...they say he rocked out Tampa...Jim's area! So many do not know either..and we MUST do our part to get Rod known. He is our only hope!

3. I talked to Rod last week in Tampa
And later that night I was at the Hernando JJ dinner and Davis was there. It seems that Davis is making a deliberate tactic of avoiding Davis. He wouldn't attend that dinner until he was sure Smith wouldn't be there.

6. Sorry
Rod Smith is pro-death penalty. Jim Davis is where it's at.

7. Rod Smith was the State Attorney General
for Alachua County during the Danny Rollings trial. I know people who have worked with him and he is well respected around here.

He's a little more conservative then I like my DEMS to be but for the most part he's a pretty rational human.

8. Actually he is not as conservative in some things as Davis is.
Davis has tended to put down activists a lot. Smith seems more open to us. We are supporting Smith.

9. I met Smith and Davis and heard their speeches at the Florida
State Convention where I attended as a delegate in November. I was SO much more impressed with Rod. And I went in with absolutely no prior knowledge or commitment to either candidate. I was just a little confused as to why all the big guns present were at the Davis reception backing him: Bob Graham and Max Cleland are two that come to mind, but he had a room full.

GO ROD!!

10. Nearly all the party leaders support Jim Davis.
He is one of the leaders of the New Democrat Coalition.

http://www.house.gov/jimdavis/

A lot of us got sort of cross when he stood before a DFA forum in Tampa, which had kindly invited him to come...dinner and all. He said he did not agree with most of what Howard Dean said. He never responded to those who wanted to know what he did not agree with, which was a fair question. If you say it, you should explain it. He refused to clarify it.

Bob Graham is his campaign manager, and he was one of the founders of the New Dems. He will probably win, but we will continue to support Rod Smith to be candidate.

12. Yes, I was "blown away" by his speech also and with his
achievements. Plus he has fantastic charisma. He truly is impressive.

13. Jim Davis supporter here
..and he appears to have the support of most of the local DECs. Might have something to do with him actually turning up when invited to their functions. Rod has been a no show or reluctant participant in more than one that I've heard about, first hand.
