Polls close in Virginia in 30 minutes...predictions?
Right now I would say Webb is probably the favorite. Miller went really negative near the end.

But I wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way either

btw: I voted for Webb (with some hesitation)

1. If Webb wins, Allen ain't gonna be happy.
I think Webb will get the nomination, but he has a serious uphill battle in the election though.

2. I don't think Webb will beat Allen...
Allen just has too much of a head start...but I do think Webb can make Allen campaign, and can bloody him up.

Allen is on Shrub's level intellectually. He is really dumb as rocks, and the more he is forced to campaign, the more people are gonna see what a moron the guy truly is. Could well kill his Presidential aspirations.

7. Webb has come out in opposition to the war...
And has taken more moderate stands on a number of other issues...

Frankly I suspect he will be a Ben Nelson type of Democrat...which in Virginia is a step in the right direction!

10. IF Webb is Ben Nelson in drag, I will work to defeat his ass!....
Goddammit! I voted for Webb and I will work to defeat him if he has betrayed me and is a DINO! And that is promise!

14. Ben Nelson votes the Democratic position 55%-60% of the time..
George Allen votes it 0% of the time.

Most importantly, Ben Nelson votes for Harry Reid as leader...the most critical vote as far as I'm concerned!

13. why don't you ask Kerry or Schumer?
does Webb's opposition to the Iraq War from the beginning sound like a Republican stance?

15. Ah, the old "no difference between this dem and a republican" line
as inaccurate now as it was in 2000 with Gore and Bush. Webb is no Feingold, but VA is no WI.
Webb is 1000 times better than Allen.

5. Why the hesitation? He, in this upcoming election, would be what Clark
would have been in 2004. I voted for him myself. Just hoping there is not a Repub sabotage because of our open primaries. Heard one guy on local news say he was exercising his open primary voting rights. Got the impression he was a Repub.

Not a problem, because I'll be voting in the Repub open elections. So far, I'm going for Frist because the Repubs need their own dead weight to try to carry across the finish line. Excluding all arguments about electronic voting machines. Mark Crispin Miller warned him about those in NY and our dead weight didn't listen then either.

6. Webb was more blatantly Republican...
He supported Allen in 2000 and continues to praise Ronald Reagan...

But frankly it was his attacks on John Kerry and his antiwar activities that gave me the most pause. However I see he and Kerry have reached a raproachment, and the Kerry has strongly endorsed him.

This eased my discomfort some.

9. Since I learned more about him, I hope Webb wins.
The dem who's the organizer for GOTV in my district, as well as one of the tireless champions for paper ballots on the state level, had no qualms about Webb when I asked him about it, and in fact finds him impressive. I trust the guy's judgment and commitment to progressive values completely.

Specifically, he pointed to these facts:

Webb came out strongly and publically against the Iraq war BEFORE the
invasion. Miller thought it was a good idea.

Webb says he thinks the government's business should stop at a person's
front door unless there is a compelling govt interest. He is pro gay
rights and pro-choice. He is really more of a populist on economic and
social issues. He is very receptive to arguments about Americans being
hurt by outsourcing and illegal immigration. Miller lobbied to prevent
outsourcing penalties.

16. I voted for Webb
even though I was conflicted to the last minute. My deciding inflence was that Kerry, Clark, and Mark Warner endorsed him. "lightweight" in the intelligence department. He needs to GOOOOOOOOO!
