Five cars in five weeks for Sean Hannity "listeners"!
The local "Progressive" radio station here in Baton Rouge (AA affiliate + Ed Schultz) ran a commercial promoting five cars in five weeks to selected listeners of the Sean Hannity show. Register online at Hannity and listen each day and if your name is called you are a winner! GM and Sean Hannity are sponsoring it, according to the commercial.

Is this happening in your area?

This seems a political ploy to me to "buy" votes.

1. It would take a lot more than just the possibility of winning a car ...
to get me to listen to Hannity.

2. It's in my area of North Georgia.
Now, wouldn't be ironic if we registered and one of us "evil liberals" won a car?

3. Virginia, too. I imagine it's nationwide -
- seems more like a ploy to buy listeners, to me. The fact that this is coming right before an election isn't surprising. I'm sure he hopes to sway a few voters while they're chained to their radios trying to win a car.

4. Great way to get rid of the Katrina-damaged cars, don't you think?
Great idea, Sean. Any dead bodies included?

5. The Fall Radio Ratings
Just started. I'm not supporting Hannity, but this kind of stuff is typical around the country at radio stations. Just a gimmik to try to get higher ratings. By the way, in the top 25 radio markets Hannity's ratings are down from last Spring to this Spring in 22 of them.

7. How about the Clear Channel giveaway - "be the first nationwide caller"
On the local (if you can call a North Canton station "local" to Cleveland Ohio) "lefty" station, (C.C.), says it's the "Republican Slush Fund" that they're handing out.

Local (again, North Canton, same building as the "leftie" station, but for "Akron" Ohio) "Top 40" station, with Right-wing kool-aide drinking ("recovering" alcoholic Catholic) morning DJ doesn't put a political spin on the same contest.

Driving around the other day, I heard the lefty station do the promo. Curiosity set in, and I tuned to the RWer's station ... and, lo and behold, they had just fired off the signal to call in ...

(I expected a 7 second delay)

No surprise the bribery going on.

In the 80s, WMMS in Cleveland (later to be charged with cutting the transmission of Howard Stern's funeral for other local personalities and given a slap on the wrist ... later to be absorbed into Clear Channel) bribed their listeners constantly. In fact, one radio "interview" I heard was with a "contestant" for a national magazine spread. The DJs promised her that they would deliver the listeners' votes if she promised to submit 200 votes for WMMS as the "top station in the nation".

Soon after Rolling Stone heard about this, they discontinued the practice that it had been using to rate the stations ...
