Is there a Democratic candidate runing to replace Foley?

Maybe now is the time to send some donations there to help.

3. And Timothy Mahoney had already raised $1.1M
I wonder if Foley can give his $1.5M to the new repuke nominee? Is that prohibited or not?

4. He could keep his campaign warchest or simply set up a 527.
A 527 would probably be the easiest, most-legal way to
spend his campaign warchest helping the new Republican
candidate.

14. Looks like he has a number of options, including giving to other repukes
I just ran across this, according to the WSJ he can give it to other candidates and committees, or might end up using it for his legal defense like The Hamper did.

16. Big problem there
Foley's money is absolutely poisonous right now. Taking his money will be tantamount to approving of his behavior. I'd bet it eventually makes it's way somewhere but it will need to be thoroughly laundered first. Not this election cycle.

17. Maybe so, maybe not.
I just ran across this in LBN:

Candidates Unload Money From Foley(NRCC Will Keep Contributions)

(AP) Republicans in tight re-election contests were unloading contributions they received over the years from Mark Foley, the former congressman ensnared in an e-mail sex scandal.

But the National Republican Congressional Committee, which has received $550,000 from Foley since 1996, will keep its money, committee spokesman Carl Forti said.

"We will be using the money like every other contribution — to help elect Republicans across the country," Forti said.

In Buffalo, N.Y., the Republican chairman of the committee, Tom Reynolds, dismissed the notion that the committee give up or donate the $100,000 it received from Foley last summer. He spoke at a news conference in which he also defended himself against suggestions that he didn't act appropriately when he learned of Foley's contact with a Louisiana teenager.

So candidates who have received poison money from Foley will send it back or give it to a charity or whatever. But it looks like repukes could launder what he has left through the NRCC. My guess is that Foley will try to use it in some way to benefit himself as much as possible. Maybe his legal defense or a contribution to a favorite charity where a friend or relative just happens to be the overpaid CEO.

10. I just saw him on Hardball !
What a nice guy, and certainly took the high road when Chris asked him if he was going to run on the Foley incident. Nope, just the issues, especially those that affect the people of Florida. Good for him! Chris seemed to enjoy him and invited him back "after he wins" :patriot:

7. Correct, he recently converted from (R) to (D)
Someone like Ted Kennedy would have a 0% chance of winning in Virginia, so we should forgive him if he leans a tad too much to the right to suit us.

9. This is one district to my south. I'm not sure the Dem candidate is...
much of an improvement, other than to the safety of the pages. I think he's another "numbers Dem." i.e. Don't expect a good voting record, but his warm body could help us get the majority so we can get Democratic leadership in Congress.
