FRC Statement on Mark Foley

10/2/2006 5:25:00 PM

To: National Desk

Contact: JP Duffy or Bethanie Swendsen, 866-FRC-NEWS, both of Family Research Council

WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In response to the events surrounding the resignation of Congressman Mark Foley (R- Fla.), Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins released the following statement:

"We are all shocked by this spectacle of aberrant sexual behavior, but we shouldn't be. This is the end result of a society that rejects sexual restraints in the name of diversity. When a 16-year-old boy is not safe from sexual solicitation from an elected representative of the people, we should question the moral direction of our nation. If our children aren't safe in the halls of Congress, where are they safe? Maybe it's time to question: when is tolerance just an excuse for permissiveness?

"Both political parties need to be more serious about protecting children from sexual predators. We need public policy in our country that protects marriage, respects parental authority and aggressively polices boundaries around our children."

11. Deliberately confusing the issue
As if they don't know the difference. Not surprising, though. Scripture tells us that there will always be those with itching ears, eager to tell and hear lies. They become so inured to untruth that their consciences become seared over, as with a hot branding iron, and are unable to distinguish good from evil. Compassion becomes a sign of weakness, kindness is merely an opening to be exploited, and tolerance is deliberately confused with permissiveness so as to continue to mislead many.

Paul wrote all about it.

12. Tolerance isn't the problem fool- - Moral facades are- and
Hypocrisy-

"Both political parties need to be more serious about protecting children from sexual predators. We need public policy in our country that protects marriage, respects parental authority and aggressively polices boundaries around our children."

.... uh,- what 'lack of respect for parental authority' would keep predators like him from targeting children????- and I for one, don't believe that if "America" is the nation the repubs- tout it as, that we need to 'aggressively police boundaries around our children' =====

Like have our girls wear Burquas? Or never letting kids be alone with ANY adult??? OH, YEAH- land of the free-

I despise the way innocent people are being used to satisfy the sick desires of people, and as targets of rage for warped, tormented, selfish jerks-

And their answer? cage the children, and work harder to pretend you're a 'righteous person'

Our children aren't safe ANYWHERE- especially with people who are control freaks.

This man's alcohol 'problem' isn't what led him to do what he did- the problem is deep inside of him- and likely led him to drink, in order to be able to live with himself-

hypocrite.

13. CHRISTIAN perverts and child molestors is more like it.
repressive and hypocritical churches breed repressed and hypocritical predators.

BTW predation is personal choice not a matter of social mores. There are plenty of people living in this same society who choose not to be predators. Just like there are plenty of poor people who choose not to be criminals.

15. Perkins is just 'gay-bashing' again. That's how he can connect marriage
and respect for 'parental authority' into this. I notice he has nothing to say about America's glorification of weapons of death. Where is his condemnation of our love of guns and WMDs or doesn't he know about the Amish school shootings? And by the way, why have the last two killers within our schools been only interested in eliminating females. Could our 'society' possibly be a tad misogynic (as preached by certain fundamental churches)?
