Was heterosexuality a main reason for recent school shootings?
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 12:06 PM by zulchzulu
That appears to be a common thread to the personal backgrounds of the shooters in those horrible incidents.

The fact that they were white male heterosexuals should be looked at with the same journalistic lens as how homosexuality is being seen as pedophilia by certain news organizations with the Foley Follies.

This sounds like a job for Katie Couric!

1. Yes, the urge of some men to rape underage females is obviously ...
due to the heterosexual orientation. Well, at least that's where the reasoning of the rightwing spin machine would tend to lead, a la Foley's "sexual orientation."

6. As best I can tell from all the TV interviews...
It appears to be Fundamentally a Christian problem in the school shootings. According to most accounts the shooter was a hard-working milk-man, with strong spiritual and family values. While some still claim, "God has been ignored in public schools," Divinity is sure getting plenty of attention in media these days.

It's not only comments by all those rank-and-file Fundies and Amish victims; in recent TV interviews, His Ass-Holiness the Dope evokes Divinity more often than Falwell and Robertson combined!

7. Enchante!
Similarly, was extremist Christian fundamentalism a factor in the Oklahoma City bombing?
And was Michael Brown promoted to FEMA head over more qualified applicants because of affirmative action for white males?

Great post.

29. Good point re: OK City.
I've seen precisely that point made, to be honest.

And it created a lot of grief for some eccentric fundie Xian churches, and even more grief for the conservative Xians I knew in grad school. Plus there were calls for the FBI to investigate a bunch of churches--and esp. some oddball little groups that hardly merit the designation 'church--and to send in undercover operatives, etc.

So that flawed logic was used. Unfortunately, it was mostly used by others than freepers.

I have long been watching the voting bloc, Angry White Male (hetero), for quite a while. They seems to create more than their fair share of problems in this world.

14. You should have heard the woman (over 70 years old) that
I phonebanked a couple of days ago....she said women should be the ones running this world. I loved it. We had a great conversation...and what was unusual...she said she had always been a republican until lately...now she just wants women to rule!

Maybe the Women's Liberation Movement is going to resurrect itself soon!

10. Don't get me wrong, I love heterosexuals. A lot of my best friends
are straights. But there are some straights-- just like some gays-- who are really sick. And we all can't deny that the Republican party is FULL of straights. I support my straight friends who are non-murderers, who don't engage in testosterone-fulled school shootings, who don't rape young women, who don't murder their own children like Andrea Yates and all the rest. But I don't think it's anti-straight to say that these things are wrong. I mean, let's face it some straight men do have a problem staring at well-endowed 15 and 16 year olds on the beach. Only the creepiest ones say "hey can I get that door for you?" and all that. But it is a problem.

Don't get me wrong straights! I'm a total ally! I know that the good portion of you are law abiding family people who have nothing to do with all the serial killers, Scott Petersons, and amish shooters of the world.

Peace!

12. Yeah, but it's mostly straights who've come on to me when I didn't want it
In MY experience, straight guys are sex-crazed -- you know, promiscuous. They'll have sex anytime, anywhere, so they have had lots of sexual partners! And they don't have long-term relationships -- lots of times it's just sex, and they move on!! Shocking.

I also think they're more prone to violence. Think of all the wars started by straight white men!! FAR more than started by any other population!! And I'd dare say most of the porn websites out there are viewed by straight white guys. Like I said, it must mean they're sex-crazed.

Now I agree, I have a few straight white men who are friends, because I'm not afraid they're going to grab my ass, you know... But overall, it's understandable why people don't feel comfortable around them.

:sarcasm:

15. Alright. That's enough. I'm insulted by this sweeping generalization.
I'm a straight white man. Is there really any need to diss a whole class of people for your silly sophomoric agenda? We're not all sex crazed. We don't all stare at your precious tits all day.

As for the porn websites, I only did that once. For research. When ..... uh ...... you were away ...... on that business trip ........

But anyway, How Dare You? *Some people* think its just fine to make deprecatory comments on anyone for any old reasons. I'm sick of this.

And to think its here. On DU. Ick.

16. A little thin-skinned, are we?
It's not that they're straight, it's that they're jerks. Why take everything so personally?

So Clarence Thomas, Tim McVeigh and Rush Limbaugh walk into a bar.... Oh, never mind! Have to be sooooo "PC" here!

Oh, and when I said you were thin-skinned? Let's just say that's the ONLY thin thing about you... just like a certain speaker of a certain House whose name won't be mentioned in connection with adipose tissue but who ALSO happens to be a straight, white male... I'm just sayin'.

21. It's not about them being straight. It's about the HYPOCRISY!
Straight people are failing to see this point. It's not that we're against these people for being straight-- IT'S THE HYPOCRISY! They act like OH I'M SO PURE-- and then they're out having tons of straight sex, which is really sick when you think about it: they have oral and anal sex all the time-- and then they rail against it publicly, especially when Clinton does it. There's nothing wrong with being straight (I mean, as long as you don't murder people, rape little girls, or torture animals) but I think we can all band together against HYPOCRITES.

I'm sick of people supporting STRAIGHT BOY Bush and BREEDER Cheney and that TITFUCKER Richard Perle. I'm sorry but Barbara Bush is a COCKSUCKER! Cheney gives it up the ASS! To WOMEN! There're all a bunch of SELF-HATING STRAIGHTS!!!!

20. I think they are shooters that aren't entirely convinced of their
heterosexuality. It seems the most messed up people have trouble coming to terms with their sexuality, whatever that may be. The MSM didn't mention the sex of his prior victims although he picked out female victims to get his freak on with this time around. Hmmmmmm.
