Why Sensenbrenner is going down (let's give him a push!)
Wisconsin's 5th District has a smart, energetic Democratic candidate for Congress in Bryan Kennedy. Is this the year we get rid of the despicable F. James Sensenbrenner? Yes, with a little help right now.

Sensenbrenner has had a reputation for being impossible to beat and, sadly, that attitude is still shared by many of the Democratic Party leaders in Wisconsin. People with open minds and some vision know otherwise.

Bryan Kennedy was trailing Sensenbrenner by only 9 percentage points in a poll conducted at the end of August. And look what has happened since then:

  • Sensenbrenner pushed legislation through the House that would make it harder for police to trace guns used in crimes back to the dealers who sold them (an NRA priority). The right-leaning daily newspaper blasted him for this “soft-on-crime measure.”

  • After Milwaukee's mayor termed that legislation “appalling,” he called the mayor a “crybaby” and
said that Milwaukee is “rapidly becoming the murder capital of the U.S.” (Actually, Milwaukee's homicide rate is down 14% from last year, and many cities are higher on the list.) Business-oriented civic leaders said his remarks were “chilling” and “distressing”' and “damaging.”

  • Sensenbrenner refused to participate in a candidate forum in the district sponsored by La Casa de Esperanza. Presumably he was afraid to face the Hispanic community, which opposes his policies on immigration. Meanwhile, white supremacist groups were reported in the local press as supporting him for those same policies.

  • Sensenbrenner single-handedly blocked a House vote to strengthen penalties for illegal dogfighting and cockfighting, despite 324 cosponsors for the bill. His reason was that Congress should be attending to more important business in the last days before recess. (How long does a voice vote take?) This prompted the Humane Society to run a dramatic full-page ad in the daily paper, which included the point that illegal transport of cockfighting birds has been linked to the spread of bird flu (thanks a lot, Jim).

  • More suggestions that he's is in trouble: Republicans are taking down their Sensenbrenner yard signs, and Jim has agreed to an unheard-of two debates in the district. When he will actually debate, you know he's worried.

Sensenbrenner's popularity is sinking, and Bryan Kennedy can close the gap if he can get more name recognition. Bryan's forces are out there distributing literature in the key wards, and Bryan has been working tirelessly on appearances and door-to-door campaigning. What he needs to put him over the top is some time on TV. He has made some great ads and needs to get them before the viewers ASAP. Early voting starts soon!

Here's an opportunity to show Wisconsin's biggest authoritarian that he doesn't own this seat. And those in the Democratic leadership who haven't done much for Bryan up to now need to know that “we the people” don't give up on any district. No way, not when the payoff for winning is so enormous.

Can you help sponsor a television ad to let the voters know an excellent new candidate is ready to represent them in Washington?

By the way, if you aren't motivated yet, think about this for a minute: If Denny Hastert has to resign, who might they choose as the next Speaker? Noooo! We can't take that chance. Please help!

1. Next speaker of the house is Nancy Pelosi
Next chairman of the House Judiciary committee is John Conyers.

And the next congressperson from WI-5 will be Bryan Kennedy!

2. I absolutely agree with you
I was thinking of the lame duck session they will have after the election. Putting Sensenbrenner in there for even a little while would be awful (third in line of succession and all that).

14. Agree with you on the last two.
But Nancy Pelosi is anti-impeachment, and must not be allowed to be the next Speaker. The next Speaker must be Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania.

19. I don't know...
Is Murtha pro-impeachment? I wasn't aware of that.

And I have a feeling Nancy just being cautious, pre-election. There's nothing to indicate otherwise to me.

5. I'm looking forward to those debates
The format will put him on an equal basis with Bryan, something that will certainly be quite galling to someone like him. After reading John Dean's book, Conservatives Without Conscience, it's crystal clear to me that he is a flaming authoritarian.

16. The party faithful alone will not win races
We need independents and crossover Republicans to get our candidate elected. A moderate Republican friend of mine voted for Sensenbrenner (whom he doesn't like) only because the Democratic Party never put up a viable challenger. When I told him about Bryan Kennedy's candidacy, he said he was going to vote for Bryan.

Sensenbrenner has held the seat for so long, not because he is popular but only because he never had a challenger. Now we have an excellent candidate. Help Bryan Kennedy get his message out and he will beat Sensenbrenner. Send Bryan whatever you can afford in order to buy television ad time. The 5th Congressional District covers a large area and television ads are the best method for getting name recognition in the rural areas and the small towns. The people in this district are tired of Sensenbrenner. They need to get to know Bryan Kennedy and they will vote for him. Let's not miss this great opportunity. Please help Bryan today. http://bk2006.org.

24. I live in Brookfield...
The heart of Sensenbrenner Country, where he got somewhere near 70% of the vote in 2004.

I have seen, to date, two Sensenbrenner yard signs in my area. Three Kennedy's -- and four if my neighbor up the street lets me place one in his yard tomorrow.

Something's happening here. If you know uncommitted voters in the 5th District, give them a call.

If anyone would like a Kennedy sign, there are numerous places around the district where they can be picked up. PM me with your location and I'll get back to you with the nearest site, or maybe arrange delivery if needed.
